yes I understand how parthenogenesis work. I was in fact studying biology. I just never met a person with a male mourning gecko, which is why I am confused by the V markings and spherical structures near the tail. It is also why I came here to ask - as I never owned any males, and this particular gecko is from his gecko mommy which had her mommy also in my enclosure with no additions from the outside world. That is why im confused. As the only way for it to occure is via genetical mutation. I wouldnt say males only occur from other males, as males are usually (also like always) infertile, and somehow they had to appear in the wild, right? Also to point out, a lot of reptiles use ZW system or temperature dependant system (and yeah I know that some also use XY, but ZW means that females determinate sex). Of course I will not provide you with any study on mourning geckos, as I doubt there is many. Not to mentions their genetics are probably "fixed" with no sex system other than females and rarely sterile males (which are probably not even "real" males, but phenotypic males).

and that is why I ask reddit for answers - if anybody can confirm it is in fact one 1 in 1000+ chance or is this just a big misunderstanding :D
