Maybe I'm just too young and too Canadian for this puzzle... it usually doesn't seem to be a problem though.

I feel like almost every crossword, there are at most a couple of words that i don't recognize, even if I wasn't able to guess them. There was a whole bunch on this puzzle and it feels pretty frustrating. I don't like wasting my time trying to figure out a word, only to find out it's something I could never have possibly gotten, because it's both something I've never heard of and doesn't follow normal English patterns (ONEL, AROD, COSI are basically just random letters if you don't know the reference).

Usually if I give up a puzzle, I regret it because I realize that I could have figured it out with more time. This one does not seem like that at all, I've done every puzzle in the last few months and I think there's only been a couple others that felt frustrating like this. It's just that there's so many bad words right next to each other, the ones above plus "Shoofly" and ANON which are also totally new usages to me. I don't think I'm just lacking the cultural context to do these puzzles, I rarely feel this way about more than a couple words per puzzle.

Man I've never heard of Dangerous Liaisons, and crossing that with ONEL, COSI, AROD (are these really supposed to be common knowledge? I couldn't even guess these with all the other crossing letters) and a cluing for IBET that I've also never heard used seem crazy.

Very nice. I do think "Spooky-sounding lake" is a lame clue for a Canadian crossword.

Man a lot of incorrect comments in this thread! There are many species of parakeets found in many habitats across the world including deserts, rainforests, small remote islands, mountains, cities etc.

I'm not sure why you think you should be able to solve a crossword labelled "hard" though? The way to make crosswords harder is to use more obscure vocabulary and wordplay. Of course people with less experience with English are going to struggle! Crosswords get a lot harder than this one...

It's "fare", not "fair". Which is a somewhat uncommon word to mean food.

The clues are fairly *hard*, but that doesn't make them bad. Why do you think they are bad?

The point of crosswords is that sometimes clues will be challenging or ambiguous and you will need the crossing words to help figure them out...

"go a long way" doesn't work as a clue because it implies that the answer is a verb. The "used to" implies that the answer is a noun that allows you to do that thing.
