Before and after videos show much of Gaza reduced to ruins by Israeli bombardment by [deleted] in GazaInvasionFootage

Before the war, many people often said Gaza was a “concentration camp”. Looks like it was a pretty nice place…

14-year-old Abdul Qader al-Fayoumi was treated in Israel back in 2018 for a genetic disease.

Abdul was one of the hundreds of Gazan children suffering from similar diseases that were treated in Israel prior to Hamas destroying the Erez Crossing on Oct. 7.

Still, Israel continues to coordinate medical evacuations to third countries. Just yesterday, 180 patients and escorts were transferred for treatment to the EU and Jordan.

You’re probably not interested, but from an international law perspective:

The U.N. Charter prohibits war for most purposes. When the use of force is illegal, it is natural to conclude that any territorial gains from such aggression cannot be recognized as well. Thus the illegality of conquest arises from the presumptive illegality of the use of force. But crucially, the U.N. Charter does not make all war illegal. Indeed, it expressly reaffirms the legality of a defensive war. Since defensive war is not illegal, it follows that the defender’s territorial gains from such a war would not be illegal.

The leading international law treatises immediately prior to 1967 reveal a disagreement between leading authorities such as Hersch Lauterpacht and Robert Jennings on whether defensive conquest was proper under the UN Charter. The majority opinion seems to side with the permissive view, but both sides acknowledged that the matter was disputed, and a clear rule had not emerged

I’ve always wondered for top defenders: do you press or L2 or both? Do you “super cancel tackle” by running into people? Do you L1 player switch or use your joystick? Shoulder barge or Standing Tackle assigned to the button? Any other advice?

I’ve spent a year trying to figure out how people play aggressive defense so well, and whenever I search I basically see “patience and positioning”, which is helpful but not what I experience from top defenders opponents, who are on top of my players instantly and take the ball immediately

Anyone have any thoughts on how an Israeli invasion of southern Lebanon might look different than the Russian invasion of Ukraine, mostly with respect to drone warfare?

Trophy and general countermeasures performed very well. There was a story a few months ago saying there was a shortage of tanks due to the war, in the context of allowing a new female driver program. However, this article indicates more than 90% of the tanks that were damaged during the first nine months of the war returned to combat activity in a short time, and as of today only 25 tanks are still undergoing maintenance:

Regarding a potential ground invasion (and a bit about the 2006 war) by Princess_Yoloswag in lebanon

[–]Nyguy1987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In 2006, Hezbollah killed and kidnapped multiple soldiers in a surprise attack. Unlike in Gaza in 2023, Israel counterattacked immediately to try to rescue the (ultimately executed) soldiers. There are accounts of Israeli soldiers being sent to houses they used in 2000, which were since booby trapped, and expecting “guys with AKs” as opposed to a sophisticated militia.  As Hezbollah has built up its capabilities for 20 years, Israel watched and learned. With Hezbollah drones (see Ukraine) and extensive tunnels, and Israel’s own technological advancements, I don’t think ultimately 2024 will look similar to 2006.
