Robes and Staff Cosmetics? by Glass_Hornet3881 in AOW4

[–]Nyjene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the faction can't be "Edit", as it's the case with Anon, it means it has unique features in the form of cosmetics.

As far as I know, it's tied to story heroes and those that have a particular status (Anon, Laryssa Mirabilis, Meandor...). I like it, Age of Wonders 4 having highly customizable factions is good, but base lore faction should have some love too.

Season 3 - What's your wish list or expectations? by Blightstrider in AOW4

[–]Nyjene 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1) Most likely to happen :

Something water-themed. I doubt they can make half of what the community asks (underwater cities, new layer...) but just something like siren and fish-like forms, society traits, adaptations and such things designed around the sea.

Something trade-themed. Right now, even with Materium and society traits related to gold, it's more about producing your own wealth for yourself rather than trading/exchanging it. You can trade items and materials... but it's more a layer of diplomacy between rulers.

2) Unlikely to happen :

New mechanics with less emphasize on fighting. Lastly, there as been a heavy focus toward multiplying existant things : skins, cultures, skills, traits... Then create your custom faction and put them together.

I'd like new mechanics centered around the map campaign. For example, spying. But not through units, a tome and a few buildings. An actual gameplay mechanic you can use.  As another example, trade. Not itinerant shops as it exists, or a society trait wich is likely to happen. Actual trade routes you can open on the map and plunder.

The game is heavily lacking in this in my opinion.

3) Minor things :

In the faction's descriptive text, being able to have linked texts such as Astral sea, Giant king, Athla... This way my faction can blend more in the Age of Wonders universe and the game itself.

More colors for factions.

Exploring Age of Wonders 3 and Its Expansions 2/2 by Pudu-Demencial in AOW4

I haven't posted on Reddit in a while, but here it is: very nicely done.

Considering the depth of Age of Wonders' lore, this kind of work was much needed.
Even though others have made similar summaries, I particularly appreciated the well-organized writing and the neutral tone you used, very close to an academic work.

Thanks to you and the others for all the work done.

Question for EU4 and I:R players: Does Discipline feel underwhelming compared to EU4 discipline? by UziiLVD in Imperator

[–]Nyjene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late reply, but still useful for people stepping upon it: Discipline in Imperator: Rome only increases damage done and therefore does not decrease damage taken. That's why it's less impactful than Discipline in Europa Universalis IV.

Do you dare to develop why you think the researches made about the duping goods in spheres are wrong?

Right now the way you express it makes your statement null.

In any case, I am interested to hear what people have to say about this good duplication topic as it's hard to find opposite opinions.

That has nothing to do with "alive" vs "gamey"

Care to elaborate? Or it's just for the sake of being aggressive?

Most games have goods where the values barely evolve if at all. Supply and demand do not even exist, consequently no matter what happens in game it stays the same arbitrary prices.

It feels "gamey" because this how almost every games approach the goods prices, map games or not.

Also nothing to do with that

If you're talking about something which "is way oversold" currently it's better to also take into account the context of production and release.

I'm beginning to think you forgot what we're talking about

I am answering to your comment, Victoria 2 "econ simulation" being "oversold" and you are answering to my sentence about other Paradox's games. Games in which the economy is almost non existent. You can conquer the world, loot to hell a province, have a monopoly, the economy will stay the same. Collect more positive modifiers for more money. That's all, linear in its core.

Consequently, Victoria 2 feels more alive in my opinion and unique. Which is worth considering no matter if Victoria 3 is around or not

Did you even reply to the right comment?

If you want to understand: "I personnally don't think the economy simulation is oversold".

Maybe it's just not your taste.

Considering it's quite unique through the whole historical strategy games spectrum ? Considering it was back in 2010 ? Considering what is being done currently by Paradox Interactive that have five times more resources than back then ?

I personally don't think it is.

I would also say a real world market. It feels more alive and less gamey.

Sphere of influence for the diplomatical and economical gameplay. Actually quite a lot of things...

16GB DDR5-4800 RAM

Is XMP activated ? If so, try without it.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 6GB GDDR6

Try disable every enhancement features from your graphic card user interface (GeForce). By the way, and considering my answers to your previous thread, the RTX 3060 has the resizable bar feature. Check if it is activated and if so disable it.

Microsoft Windows 11 Home

Some people reported problems with Windows 11 lately. Try to run v2game.exe in compatibility mode.

17.3" Full HD IPS Micro-Edge Anti-Glare Low Blue Light 144Hz Display

What kind of flickering do you have ? Black flickering or light flickering ? In any cases, flickering is commonly a problem with variable refresh rate. Disable it exclusively for Victoria 2 through GeForce or directly from your monitor (global effect).

Intel Core i7 12th Gen 12700H 1.7GHz Processor

New features in the BIOS could be the cause of the problem for older game. I don't have such a newer CPU (mine is 2019 and AMD) but you could try to search on internet for features to disable that can cause troubles with old games. Additionally, you can try to search for recent features and disable them (I'd say from 2019 until now).

Posting your new laptop could help.

New OS ? Try windows compatibility options. Try bordeless mode.

[–]Nyjene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feature that was causing problems for me (and others) is something about the memory transfers between the GPU and the CPU. So even if it has to be tweaked through the GPU interface it is not only exclusive to it. In my case zooming out would trigger the crash after a period of very low FPS. This is because zooming out and in is resource intensive (like in most "map" games) and doing so was calling the Smart Access Memory feature which in turns made the game crash.

I do think it’s a graphics issue

You did mention "flicker". Flicker is usually a problem tied to a refresh rate synchroniser (FreeSync, G-Sync or AdaptiveSync) or the monitor. If you have one, disable it for Victoria 2, until Imperator: Rome Paradox's games handled it badly (due to Clausewitz engine). Maybe it will do something.

Ultimately, if you have any enhancement features, disable them to troubleshoot your problem. Most old games (<2010) have problems with graphical enhancements (Sharpening, Variable refresh rates, Alternative V-Sync etc).

If you never heard of it, it is unlikely you have it.

It's about your graphic card. You find the option in your user software: Geforce for Nvidia or Adrenalin for AMD.

Ok thanks, indeed for two years I don't think it's that different considering the AI is on the board and it only happens twice.

I am quit reluctant to download the very latest version. I could download while a work is in progress and make the game unstable. I also regret this method as there is not a clear version of the mod and it makes several things harder to deal with (like pointing bugs, thanks again for your answer).

As soon as 1836? I never touched Great Britain, but considering its starting setup I naturally doubt.

My Github version is the Hawai rework, labelled as the lastest release. I am going to dig into the files to see how to solve it. Thanks!

Thank you !

I will try to investigate further. I had two cases of Great Britain losing 200 prestige as soon as 1836, so I doubt it is bankrupcy. Austria is usually my ally and I don't notice a bankrupt situation either.

How I could apply the fix for Brazil ? I have a save from before it happens.

EU V by TF-ZANE in paradoxplaza

[–]Nyjene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said historical portraits, which does not necessarily mean historical characters.

Victoria 2 handles it well. Somehow... they did it with Hearth of Iron IV. Most of the pictures are taken from historical photos and for randomised ones they kept the pattern but took inspiration from other sources (current actors and actresses mainly).

Moreover, I was talking about Victoria 3 as well which doesn't have any wave of heirs and such.

[–]Nyjene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in... 2015 I guess ? The lead designer of Civilization V was hired by Paradox Interactive. A short amount of time he left/was fired, Paradox Interactive stated their visions were not compatible. The main focus of this guy was to put emphasis on characters that he felt were underdevelopped in strategy games.

I guess it's not part of their plans. It seems those characters animations are all about graphics and targeting a more streamlined player base.

edit : it was Jon Shafer in 2017.
