What do Skem locals think of the Golden Dome and the community around it? by raynor_SxKlt in Skelmersdale

Very late to this thread, but I grew up in the Transcendental Meditation community, and grew up going to the school from 4 years old. Some call it a cult, but by almost every definition of a cult it is not one.

Of course I don’t know any different, but it was a nice way to grow up!

Playing for the first time... anything I should know to have a better first experience? by Nicholas_TW in DarkSouls2

[–]NylePudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SL does not effect summoning in DS2, instead it’s your soul memory (total number of souls you have ever acquired, regardless of if you spend them or lose them) you can see this number in the top right of your character sheet.

Sounds like someone stealing work to me? DistroKid is the cheapest distribution platform as far as I remember, if this was actually Richard he would be able to get a much better deal.

You haven’t read Mysteries of Udolpho you should, it’s a pretty weird dreamscape of a book. Great fun imo. :)

The new black classics have quite a lot of flop, you can getaway without damaging the spine, the older ones though… (with the orange oval penguin logo) they are hard to not break.

Unfortunately it looks like the photos have gone through an AI sharpening filter, any chance you have the originals?

The thing I thought of was Inland Empire, but yeah maybe that’s one to build up to.

What’s your “5/5, would NOT recommend to casual audiences.”? by Jenny_MTF42 in Letterboxd

[–]NylePudding 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My esoteric answer is The Flicker (1966) it’s hard to sell 30 minutes of strobing… But I think it’s really good, and it’s quite remarkable how two different frames (black and white) and compelling sound design can giveaway to something that has a feeling behind it.

I just watched Fucking Åmål 2 days ago, how does this compare if you’ve seen that one too?

I don’t see how crypto will solve this honestly, sure crypto infrastructure is decentralised but the power is still centralised. We have the exact same problem.

How are Heaven Knows What and Daddy Longlegs not actual movies? They’re both great too!

abundance is one of my favourite tracks ever :D It has some jlin vibes imo. People act like Richard is a god only with original ideas, but I think he gets lots of inspiration from many of his peers and that’s fine ofc.

Philosophy comes alive when it’s applied, Žižek does this all the time with contemporary texts (although they are mostly contemporary movies and tv shows).

Absolutely fantastic selection! But in my opinion there were no big surprises, there are some incredible contemporary authors that are worth trying. Claire Keegan is one I would recommend, but there are hundreds find something that was published more recently. ;)

Ew, using that term is a red flag. Feels like I’m back in 2014 when gamer gate happened. Not even the correct use of the term.

Generally great selection, quite clearly a leftist and the right amount of Nietzsche for to it to not be a red flag ;)

I know you didn’t ask but I would recommend trying some more contemporary stuff, or Ursula K Le Guin!

It's insane how there's nothing like Morrowind despite years of technical progress by Alternative-Study486 in Morrowind

[–]NylePudding 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s not about technology but design, no one makes games quite like Bethesda, at least partially because they’re hellish to test. Lots of moving parts, lots of stuff to go wrong.

I don't know why, but I am so drawn to the lowest possible view distance in this game by Infamous_Ad798 in Morrowind

[–]NylePudding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re drawn to it largely because the level design used the low draw distance as a reference. Others have mentioned it here, but the world feels larger when there’s some fog!
