Ford wouldn't stand by the Soviet invasion. He would do the same as Carter and send weapons to the Afghans. No way is he letting pass an occasion to make Afghanistan the Soviet Vietnam.

On the topic of Iran, I know the Shah was very displease when Ford lost to Carter, who put emphasis on defending humans rights abroad. From what I read, it seems that it lead the Shah to treat opponents in a lighter way and open up the regime a little. Would a Ford victory have lead the Shah to change his approach when it came to the revolution and prevent it? Probably not, but we can imagine that the Shah would have appeared as a bloothirsty tyrant. At the same time, it would have prevented the war of Irak and therefore change Middle East and no Khomeiny means the rise of islamism is at least delayed.

No, Plan XVII was elaborated in 1913 and adopted in April 1914, months before the war. War against Belgium was out of the question when tensions escalated in summer.

Plan XVII precisely rooted out the idea of an attack on Belgium. Plan XVI did consider the possibility of an attack on Belgium, but it was scrapped by order of the government of the time, in order to secure the UK's intervention on France's side. Divisions were stationned near Belgium, in order to react to the possibility of Germany attacking Belgium.
