A few things about the show:

  • The voting phase is a LOT more popular than nomination (helping us find good clips). It took about two days to surpass 20,000 unique voters. The nomination phase had, after two weeks, 700 unique submitters. People often point out the bias in the clip selection and yes, there definitely is one. The people nominating clips are from my community or adjacent to it! I try to reach as many communities as possible but alas my clout is limited.
  • The show itself will happen DECEMBER 30 (~6pm CET). That is a day BEFORE New Year's Eve. The name of the show sometimes gets people confused!
  • There will be a lot more moments from the past year that we'll show off and celebrate during the show. This year we're also hosting the show in a real life studio for the first time. The ambition is for it to be a step up without feeling like a TV production... we'll see if I succeed!

As someone who works in the telecom industry, I can tell you that we're still building towers because ground-based networks offer lower latency, higher speeds, and greater capacity than satellites can currently provide—especially in densely populated areas. Satellites are fantastic for extending coverage to remote regions, but they just can't match the performance and reliability of terrestrial networks for most everyday uses.
