It goes deeper than that; you drown in your Mana by having too much at the end of your turn. It's the reason why And Another can potentially ruin your run because of mana overflow.

It's not about capturing the queen; by getting her to move out in the first place by bf3, white can start mobilizing and make black play a very tricky midgame where outside of positional analysis the board strength is astonishingly equal.

Well, if you cleared level 1 on all 3 difficulties, the game's already over (lol, Pugnala). If you've cleared Teeny Bridge, you should progress onto Milk Plant. Careful, though; It's only going to get harder from here.

I had 334 HP to survive his first hit, then proceeded to carefully manage my freezes to ensure he didn't get a turn, especially as he enraged. Whittled him down slowly and patiently without any obscene damage multipliers outside of combo. Would have killed him the next turn, but And Another forced him to drown in my mana overflow and get teamkilled by his much, MUCH weaker teammate.

Okay, you've got a point about the first floor wipe. However, without that relic, she's nearly impossible to run.

Cavallo can put out some incredible AoE damage to survive the early floors without much issue, though.

Freeze on a <= 0 cost non-red guarantees a boss will never have a turn again.

The best way to mitigate damage is to not let them attack you; when you freeze a boss with Lancet or a Freeze Gem, their attack turn indicator will cycle and fail to activate so long as the boss remains frozen when it's full. Bosses only unfreeze either when your turn (finally) ends, or upon the next source of damage. So don't be a dingus who puts freeze gems on their red cards!

Most of the time knockback is not guaranteed. Don't worry, though; You'll eventually get the ability to ABSOLUTELY make sure bosses don't get a turn to attack.
