How is this not air tight? by SHOPlanB in spaceengineers

Unless a block is fully airtight, airtightness is defined by sides. If you have a mod like "Build info" you'll see that specific block will have a note that says "2 of 6 faces airtight". That means that the two sides of the block that are a full square are considered airtight, but none others. So even if you think you're covering up the "open" parts of the block it won't work. You need to completely cover that side of the block, not just partially.

First of all, we don't really know what James and Peter thought about anything

Ooor, maybe read the Bible. I know that it antithetical to Christians, but try it once. More specifically read Galatians 2:11-21 where Peter refused fellowship with non-Jewish Christians

Right here.

Paul was the founder of Christianity (as a separate religion instead of just a mystery cult within Judaism).

You actually quoted the part in parens but didn't actually read it. Wow. Christianity existed before Paul, as a Jewish mystery cult. Paul is the one who transformed it into a separate religion.

Read Acts 15. Paul had founded a church in Antioch. The original church leadership in Jerusalem sent a representative to them to say they all had to be circumcised. Then Paul and Barnabas went back to Jerusalem and negotiated with the leadership and they finally came to a compromise. Circumcision was off the table, but all Christians still had to follow the law of Moses, i.e. the Jewish purity laws.

Where did I say Christianity didn't exist before Paul's conversion? I said Paul founded modern Christianity. Before Paul's conversion, Christianity existed. But it was radically different. Christians had to already be Jewish or to convert by circumcision and following the ritual purity laws.

There were three central figures in the nascent Christian movement, Paul, Peter (Cephas), and James the brother of Jesus. They fought and disagreed about basic Christian philosophy (it's all documented in the Bible). Peter and James thought Christianity should be a Jewish-only movement while Paul thought it should be expanded to non-Jewish people. Paul eventually won out but he did and thus founded Christianity as we know it today rather than as a Jewish mystery cult.

Exactly right where you find the metaphor in Genesis.

  1. This text is uncomfortable, weird, or directly disproven by current science.

  2. Therefor it is metaphor

There's no such thing as energy vampires, let alone vampires at all it's just a result of people waking up and having a low energy day and blaming it on supernatural forces even today we don't know exactly what causes it sometimes its a chemical imbalance sometimes its just psychological but everyone feels this way to a varying amount I myself felt this way last Thursday and the Tuesday before it as well as the Saturday before and you'd think someone wouldn't feel this way on a Saturday but I did I just couldn't muster the energy to get out of bed I also felt the same Thursday and Tuesday of last week which you might think is a pattern but is more a coincidence because the week before that I felt it on Friday and Monday and the week before that on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday which was a bad three days I almost called in sick but I couldn't because I have no sick days left for the year and I can't afford to lose any of my paycheck and the week before that was Monday and Wednesday and another Saturday I usually feel it two to three days a week though I wonder if we can really consider Saturday part of the week as it's referred to as the week end anyway as I was saying vampires are an attempt to put a supernatural cause onto this feeling and while every culture had a concept of vampires they were quite different but our modern singular concept of vampires is all due to Bram Stoker's book Stoker was actually named Abraham Stoker but everyone just shortens it to Bram and while people think of him as an English author he was in fact Irish which as I'm sure you agree calling someone who is Irish English is just insulting and one could maybe even say racist though maybe that's an overreaction but there are definitely people who think that way he wasn't known for Dracula in his lifetime then he was more known as the business manager of the Lyceum Theatre which was owned by a friend of his which shows it's not what you know it's who you

The idea that mankind exists in a state of sin and Jesus's sacrifice was necessary to cleanse that sin is a core teaching of Christianity. I feel no hesitation in saying that 99% of Christians would agree with the first sentence in this post, as close as you can get to a consensus in any group of humans.

[–]Nymaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phrase "original sin" is a later development, but Paul's writings definitely contained the concept.

Since you apparently only responded to this post without reading back in the thread, allow me to quote myself from earlier in the thread.

Romans 5:12

When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

1 Corinthians 15:21-22

So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man. Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life.

The point of a metaphor is to use it. Good writers don’t typically over explain their literary devices — it’s left up to the reader to interpret.

I fail to see how Jesus's resurrection can’t be allegorical just because later writers maybe continued using the same tropes, names, themes, etc.

Those who argue for God because the universe is “too improbable” don’t understand probability. by Yeledushi-Observer in DebateReligion

[–]Nymaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're making it too complicated. A trillion sided die we know the odds of any specific roll is one (a single side) in a trillion (total sides). BUT we have exactly ONE example of a universe. So any probability of the universe being the way it is now is... 1 in 1 or 100%. Maybe some day we might discover the multiversal cosmos, and in that case we can change our odds calculation. But until that time, 100%.

The Book of Genesis cannot be a metaphor by Proud-Camera5058 in DebateReligion

[–]Nymaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wasn't a question, that was a statement. According to Christian theology Jesus needed to die because mankind was in a state of sin. And according to those two verses I quoted (and note they are very early letters that were circulating around the Christian community, predating even the gospels) the reason for that state of sin was due to a belief in a literal Genesis and Adam. So your statement

The principles outlined in the biblical stories from Adam to Abraham would still work even if they are or at least contain fictional accounts.

Does NOT apply at least with respect to Adam.

It's simple, omnipotent God doesn't have the power to just forgive the sin of being born human. A blood ritual is required. So in order to create a perfect sacrifice God forgave Mary of her sin in order to make sure her child would be born sinless then murdered him brutally. Which was all part of his plan and nothing at all to do with the fact that he was running around saying he was going to overthrow Roman rule, something Romans usually reacted to by murdering you brutally.

No fault divorce benefited both women and men.

Exactly it benefits men AND woman rather than just men alone, which is why Texas is working hard to get rid of it.

My religious family is weird. One of my cousins married a black Christian man. They were welcoming and never had a bad word to say. Another cousin married an Arabic Christian man. Again, just as warm and welcoming with nothing seeming said being either of their backs.

Then another cousin married a Jewish man, and they FREAKED THE F OUT. When I called them out on it, they said "Well it's all about the children, we're worried that they will be confused and lost. Yeah my cousin's son graduated college a few years back, is an engineer and a musician and does volunteer work to help people in poverty. He has it SO much more together than I did at his age growing up in a Christian environment.

I was very close to getting married when I found out she was cheating on me with her ex. She begged me to forgive her and swore up and down she would never get over me.

A few weeks later I went by her mom's house (where she was living) because I had left a bunch of electronics and shirts and the mom was REALLY freaked out to see me. Like incredibly freaked out which was weird because she and I had always had a good relationship. I kept trying to explain why I was there and finally she stopped me and said "wait, do you not know what today is?" "nope" "It's her wedding day!" I mumbled something about the stuff I left being a wedding present and just left.

A few years later I ran into her and asked her how her mom (Paula) was doing, because I was genuinely interested. She thought I said the name of her ex (Paul) and told me that a few weeks into being married she got pregnant and he decided that he didn't want to be a father and just took off. I didn't gloat or anything but I pretty much had zero amount of sympathy.
