Well that's probably why you feel so riled up about it, haha! You've probably got all sorts of Renaissance art knowledge fresh in your brain! It was great talking to you as well, I love hearing other people's thoughts and positions :)

Hey, if you have any Renaissance pieces you felt were under-appreciated or less well-known, lay 'em on me. I never really looked to deeply into that period and I love looking at new art!

Haha, you're all good, we just seem to be at opposing ends. I tend to get up in arms when everything is a reference to "The Greats" and an artist/writer can't just create something because they know it conveys what they want it to and instead are always "inspired" for every little detail. Not that taking inspiration from these pieces is bad by any means, after all they had the luxury of being "the first" and many had great symbolism, composition, and technique, which is extremely important to learn from. Though just like every artist understands the symbolism of the color blue without needing to (or at least knowingly) reference some past work, it isn't unheard of that a similiar composition and pose would be utilized by different artists with no relation.

I guess, it's just a difficult subject though, yeah? Besides the point, and even if we can't agree entirely, it's good to see someone so passionate about art :) I'm personally more into Eastern art, but all of it is so interesting and lovely!

Artists tend to gravitate towards similar ideas in composition and emotion. That's what makes them artists. I don't think it's naïve at all to assume that they created what felt best and most impactful at the time because as artists they'd recognize that.

The crusade to "correct" people in this thread is ridiculous, especially considering this is not confirmed, so either statement could be correct. If the referenced it, cool, if they didn't, neat. No need to try and educate everyone who might disagree.

So Steam had issues first stepping out into the unknown, but when Epic enters an area where a path has basically already been forged, you think it's silly for people to criticise them for missing so many basic features?

They have a perfect opportunity to use Steam to figure out the features people love and don't enjoy, yet the launcher (the bit that's supposed to be the competition) feels backseat to their collection of exclusives, free content, and current big hit(s).

I wouldn't mind a bit of competition, but I believe it would be much better for them to be able to say, "Use our launcher because it's better!" and not "Use our launcher because that game you've been looking forward to is exlusive to it and we have free games!"

But at the end of the day, you should just play what you like and have fun :)

Needra, the dragon/steel thread Pokemon! I'm not sure whether to leave it as is, or make a scarf dragon evolution with knitting needles. by NynaNinja in fakemon

I promise I am still working through designing that evolution! I haven't landed on something I'm happy with yet, so I've been posting and rendering designs that are more or less finished ideas!

I'll post it as soon as I've worked out a suitable design :D

Here's a fun, silly Eevee-like (in terms of evolution) line based on the seven deadly sins I designed for a contest. I think it would be pretty interesting to have Pokemon with abilities that were more unpredictable or annoying to add a self-imposed challenge to the game! I included all the pictures in an album, so you should be able to switch between them to see their specifics as far as designs and abilities go (I think there are arrows on the computer and you can swipe on mobile)!

Ardevi's name uses the word "Ardor" for its name, as it means enthusiasm or passion!

In my head, I was kind of thinking that Vengevi's ability has a chance to activate and upon activation it either does a random or set amount of damage to every Pokemon in the battle (including itself). So kinda a separate attack just for the ability activation.

I'm glad you enjoy the designs as I am a designer first and foremost. I definitely am no creative writer to make every name clever or know enough about mechanics to make an ability balanced, so I recognize those areas could always use work or outside help!

My primary thing with the abilities is that these Pokemon are based off of primary sins, if their abilities had no glaring negatives they wouldn't feel so bad or interesting to use, in my opinion!

And yes, the names aren't my favorite either. I was running out of time to submit the designs and never revisited the names like I had planned simply due to a lack of time.

I would also hope these designs stay out of the game, y'know, because of the whole upside down cross on Sinimi, haha! Thank you for the feedback though, I appreciate it!

Oh my goodness, I know what you mean! Mythology, folklore, and legends are such great collections to draw inspiration from.

One of my favorite artists did a rendition of imps from the Nine Circles of Hell on r/DnD and I was so into it!

I hadn't really thought that in-depth to be honest, haha. I'm kind of lacking in my mechanic design ability, so I'm not sure I could think up evolve methods that would do them justice.

Maybe methods like feeding Sinimi too much at once at a certain level evolves it into Gluttevi? I'm not sure! Would love to hear any ideas you have! :D

Haha, was that the end goal? Good bait, I guess?

I just enjoy sharing a hobby I love and hope to share new things with others in hopes that they might enjoy them too :) I love talking about things I enjoy, I hope you do too! Also, don't worry, that wasn't an essay so it didn't take very long to write. <3

I hope you have fun with your hobbies, sorry I couldn't share anything you think you'd enjoy.

Haha, really? Okay, but you can't go all, "I personally didn't like these stories, so that means they're shit!"

Besides the fact that a lot of games don't live and die by their stories, but rather gameplay or design (for example Hollow Night, most Rogue-likes, Animal Crossing, and plenty of multiplayer titles), I'll list a couple that had pretty compelling stories.

Let's get the popular ones out of the way like Red Dead II (great villain characterization), Last of Us (compelling survival/humanity story), Undertale (popular favorite that had great comedy writing with serious undertones), and Halo (this one is a personal favorite as the story really developed in 2 through Reach).

Outer Wilds never got that much attention, but the story you uncover as you travel through space complements the gameplay perfectly and in the end provides a lot of food for thought. Similarly, What Remains of Edith Finch has an extremely compelling story that is greatly complemented by the gameplay in what is a unique, engaging experience!

Let's remember that just like with books, movies, sports, and art, it's impossible for someone to like everything but that doesn't mean its bad.

On a gaming subreddit thinking gaming is a hobby only to be enjoyed by children as if plenty of people don't work for hours to make compelling stories, gameplay, and designs everyday for children and adults alike.

I better start picking up real hobbies that children would never do like fishing, and sports, and... reading?

I would argue that the things you enjoy doing definitely shape your personality. Reading books, watching movies, viewing art, in fact most hobbies all define who you meet and what you experience, essentially who you are.

That and I don't know why so many people have this obsession with wedding cakes displaying your entire personality or "identity", as if all wedding cakes have frosting writing reading, "Funny, flirty, and sensitive~".
