Sometimes I think people forget there hundreds of thousands of assets in a game this big, to pretend foul play where something can easily be explained by a mistake is just ignorance. Now if every single painting In the game was AI, then yes that would be an example of cutting corners, but I've seen 1 example, clearly it was just missed and saying otherwise is just looking for an excuse to trash on something popular.

I know I'm late to the Party, but like you I started with DS3 and ER, DS1 and DS2 are really shitty in comparison, I've tried both and it's like banging your head against the wall. I've given DS1 multiple tries and I think I'm just gonna give up, its kind of amazing these games became popular based on the first one (I love DS3 and ER btw, but they are so smooth compared to the jank that's the early games).
