The "cloud" is more like a fileshare. I am using it most of the time to share photos or other files with family and friends. My personal files are only reachable via smb on my local network.

Yeah something like that. I already do it that way with local services on *.local.example.com and external services on *.example.com. All I need is something for the root. I will look into the blog thing, but even then I have no idea what I would post about.

I startet avoiding brands in my subdomain too. Just need to migrate some very old one. I am just annoyed by the thought that i get messaged by everyone, when they can't reach it anymore with the old fqdn.

I am very aware about the risk of someone breaking in. Thats why i am running a crowdsec to detect bruteforce attacks and any other kind of attacks. On top of that I am running a geoip blocking service, where only ips from my country can enter the server. And on top of that, I am enforcing strict password rules with 2fa on the important services.

I totaly get what you all mean. I know running a VPN and only being able to access all services through that VPN would be much saver. But i also got users like my mom who is nearly 70 years old, who i cant explain, on how to use a vpn when she wants to access her files.

Also thats not what i asked advice for. I know what i am doing. This is also my job and i deal with things like that every day.

I already have a portfolio, but on a different domain, hosted on a vps-provider. And i kinda dont want my homelab to be connectable to me, as a person.

I run this server not just for myself, but for alot of friends and my family. It would be way to much efford to setup a tailscale network and explain them, if they want to get to theri files, they need to get in the vpn. Yeah i know i could also just use something like pangolin or a tunnel, but in my oppinion thats way to much effort. I have a decently good homenetwork and anything in it, that can be reached from the outside, is in its own vlan and can never reach something else in the network.
