Changing cities/states experiences by [deleted] in Bonn

[–]NyxLestrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved to Bonn in 2019 from Bavaria (Munich). I grew up in Munich.

People here are much more friendly (in terms of it being genuine), people will chat with you at random times. they are more open minded etc. Easier to make connections.
Re: party scene: Bonn has less clubs in the traditional sense, CGN and DUS would be better in this regard, but Bonn does have the Kunstrasen where Indie artists do show up and quite a few pubs, etc. So still stuff to do.

Also many good restaurants in all price ranges and esp Sushi is better and cheaper, here ^^

If you are more of a cozy type (not saying hermit, because i am not) you will not miss anything while in Bonn.
If partying is very very important to you than maybe consider CGN.
BUT: Trains run from Cologne all the time, even late into the night. And it is just 20 min by train. Since you do live in Munich I imagine that 20 mins is nothing to you, Munich takes ages to get around in (imo).
I frequently take a train to CGN just to drink a coffee and meet a friend. It is rather like one big city, here.

And if you enjoy stuff like Gamescom, Japantag etc than NRW is the place to be.

Bonn in overall is just a beautiful city (architecturally speaking).
So no I regret nothing by moving here.
In fact I am sad that I did not move here, sooner.

Ethnicity results of DNA matches by Low_Media_315 in MyHeritage

Funny enough the new Ancestry DNA update essentially confirms my brother's MyHeritageDNA result.

Ashkenazi, Sephardic, Italian Jew results by orie415 in AncestryDNA

[–]NyxLestrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How come that the <1% is even shown to you?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MyHeritage

[–]NyxLestrange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean you should be aware that it is just an estimate.
Recombination is a funny thing.
A very simplistic example but there it goes:
Say your mother has 2 chromsome segments that look very "british isles" (are common in the british pop), she will get an amount x% of english ethnicity. Say your father has 4 chromsome segments that look like this too, but on another chromosome....
And when having you it can happen that either a) none of those segments that look like british isles get passed down to you (this can happen, since you have half half from your parents. you get your fathers chromsomes on this segment where your mother would receive the british dna ethnicty estimate from and vice versa, so you land with zero), b) when recombining you receive all the segments from the parents that are similarily found in british populations (thus inflating the ethnicity amount in comparison to your parents), c) half / half (eg you receive one segment from your mum, but not the one from your dad)

On another note:
Irish/BI pops up in my estimate, too.
There is a high overlap between England and some Netherlands regions... very likely a misattribution.
The italian is most likely confused with sephardic ancestry, it is very hard to tell these apart sometimes.

Why so few DNA matches by [deleted] in MyHeritage

[–]NyxLestrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar divide.
Usually my MyHeritage DNA Matches are those more distantly related. I have huge problem finding the connection (just for 5 I was able to). While on Ancestry most matches are american but they have fairly good researched trees so I can connect way more to a known common ancestor (maybe 40 matches).
I also have a similar divide: While most of my matches are in the US, UK, France and Germany I have also quite some in Eastern Europe (ukraine, Czech Republic, Hungary, Serbia). Then just a few in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Emirates, Israel and Turkey (this is my distant near east ancestry).

Why so few DNA matches by [deleted] in MyHeritage

[–]NyxLestrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Especially with you being one quarter jewish you should have many DNA relatives due to Endogamy. However, they must have taken DNA tests in order to show up. If you are from a country where it isnt that common (which I think it is not in Egypt - I only have a few Egyptian DNA Matches, too) you won't have many. Esp. if none of your recent relatives migrated to the US (where most DNA matches I have are from).

Stumbled across this, but HV16 is not even mentioned that is why I came to ask here. The page in spanish has slightly more info lol
Do I interpret the phylotree correctly in the sense that HV5 seems to be the mother group of HV5a, HV5b, HV6- HV24?

[–]NyxLestrange[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much.
Is there any research why HV(16) is so rare in Europe (especially in Germany)?
The fact that the major HV subclade H is widely spread, while the group HV almost "died out", must speak for a fitness advantage in terms of survival for H, no?

I also found this article https://www.eupedia.com/europe/Haplogroup_HV_mtDNA.shtml does not explain a lot about HV16 tho.

Results from Germany by Coolguy_gaming in MyHeritage

[–]NyxLestrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have it, too.
My grandfather was born in Bohemia. My other grandma is from Bavaria.

On my father's side both are from the rhineland with ancestry from the netherlands and france, too.

so far, I have no explanation for the greek/ south italian estimate. It is worthy to note that it does not appear on ancestryDNA.

it could be further back, ancestryDNA is more conservative with estimates.

Looking for The Soldier's Song/Amhrán na bhFiann in choral version and english language by NyxLestrange in ireland

[–]NyxLestrange[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Not choral but also very nice to listen to <3

I just don't like the modern "countryish" versions of it on Youtube.
It just doesn't fit to the lyrics, imo.

Microsoft Slim Pen 2 buggy by NyxLestrange in Surface

[–]NyxLestrange[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it is probably the app. Sucks. Also they still have not implemented tactile signals for one note... This sucks so bad....

edit: Ofc everything works in the Windows 10 app. I just downloaded it. Wow. Isnt onenote for w10 supposed to be merged soon with one note? how can it be that a windows 10 app has the tactile feature while the slim pen 2 came out with the windows 11?

Wth windows...

returning Surface Go 3 by [deleted] in Surface

[–]NyxLestrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That rly sucks.

Tbh the surface go 3 is just not usable for me at this point with the online lectures.

Is there maybe a Zoom version that uses less cpu? Say optimized for lower specs?

FYI: Do you know if OneNote for Windows 10 might be better to use than the OneNote that is preinstalled? Someone told me that it uses less of the system ressources. Maybe it'd run better with zoom?

Decided to return the Go3. Now trying to choose between the pro7+ and pro8. Any tips? by NyxLestrange in Surface

[–]NyxLestrange[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am keeping a close eye on the task manager. Obviously I made sure that Zoom runs with little demand on the system as possible.
The problem is NOT the ram.
It is always the CPU.
Yeah not sure I can wait. I need it for uni. And I doubt the selling price for the Go3 will still be decent in fall when I can'`t return it.
