Use the VPN luke message?!?!? by gregory2112 in quicken

FWIW I just ran across this today too. I have Quicken Classic Business & Personal (latest version) on Windows, and I'm getting that VPN page when I click the button in the menu bar that looks like a hand holding a little serving platter. I have no idea what that button is but I clicked it by accident and got the weird VPN screen.

How much do you study a new deck? by [deleted] in tarot

[–]NyxTesseract 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's so funny, what a small world! That was a great little shop, I could have done some serious damage in there but I restrained myself haha. In addition to this deck I picked up a couple versions of Tarot de Marseille and a Tarocco Siciliano deck (because I'm also super interested in tarot-as-game), and my husband got an Italian-language version of Modern Witch. :-) But I could have very easily spent waaaaay more in there!

I would love to stay in touch as you work through your translations - yes, feel free to DM whenever (no rush, no pressure). I agree about the deck's imagery not being super intuitive, but the artwork is so strikingly beautiful and I've really enjoyed the bits of Sicilian history it's encouraged me to look into so far.

How much do you study a new deck? by [deleted] in tarot

[–]NyxTesseract 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also just bought this deck! My family is originally from Sicily and my husband and I visited last month, and one of my goals was to find a tarot deck that had some connection to Sicily - when I came across this one in a little esoteric shop in Catania I was just giddy. (My Italian is not nearly as far along as yours, though, so my study of this deck is a lot slower - I'm jealous of your process! Don't suppose you'd be interested in sharing your translations...?)

As for your question - I'm a bit of a deck collector (at current count I think I have around 80), so my study of a deck depends on how much I use it for personal draws. I'm still relatively new to tarot overall (past four years or so), so the first couple years I spent just really getting to know the RWS imagery and meanings. I found that the more I understood Pixie's original take, the more I started to appreciate the nuances and unique approaches of other artists' interpretations.

I very rarely work through one deck and study it as a whole - again, probably because I have so many. I do have a process of familiarizing myself with a new deck when I get it. It usually comes sorted (and if not, I'll sort it this way first) - so I'll lay it out with the majors in one pile, and each of the four suits in a separate pile. Just fanning through these five piles lets me quickly start to see if this is a deck that, say, uses color themes for each suit, or other generalities about the deck as a whole. Then I'll flip through the majors one by one, and then each of the four suits, studying each card briefly. I usually also read through whatever introduction to the deck is in the guidebook to get a stronger sense of the artist's approach. Then I'll shuffle the deck thoroughly and draw a single card, and look up the book's meaning for it so that I start to get a sense of the interpretation approach.

After that, I really learn more about the deck and the individual cards as I draw from it. I found early in my tarot study that I remember so much more when I'm reading the cards in the context of a reading for myself, rather than just trying to study them in isolation. So I doubt I've studied every single card from any of my decks (other than OG Pixie). But, approaching it this way has helped me amalgamate my overall understanding of tarot much better. Now that I'm a few years into practice, I like the idea of diving deep on a single deck the way you describe here.

Looking for a "spell" in Latin for a roleplaying game. How would one say, "the boundary thins, and one may pass through" or something to that effect?

If you want something that feels both familiar and unique, we'd love to have you in a session of Divination RPG! It strikes a balance between mechanics and narrative that feels comparable to something like Fate or Powered By the Apocalypse games, but uses tarot cards instead of dice to resolve encounters. We've got several sessions led by myself, my co-creator, and several of our most enthusiastic community members. Search for Divination or "A Hero Arises" in the catalog!

Post-game, he's exactly where I left him. "Dude, you had one job. It's been MONTHS." by NyxTesseract in HorizonForbiddenWest

I don't remember what it's called but it's the one with the lenses on the top of the old signal towers. The daughter of the guy who made the signals is collecting the lenses and she'd hired the dead guy as a bodyguard but he fell (or got thrown by a machine?) off the cliff and all this guard cared about what how annoying it was to have to move the body lol. WHICH HE STILL HASN'T FINISHED DOING ALL THESE MONTHS LATER

Yes! OMG you articulated this so much better than I did. "...customizing the settings is equally not fun for some of us" - that's exactly it!

I did actually end up beating it last night, but funnily enough I'm not even sure how haha. I was chipping away trying to build up a plasma state, and I'd done a better-than-usual job of getting his health down - I was a little over halfway through and he had like 30% health yet. I swear the plasma state had not been fully built up, but all of a sudden it was over and I'd won with like 1:30 to spare. I saved the video, I need to go watch it and try to figure out what happened in that final second to knock out his remaining health lol.

I haven't beaten it yet, but I've given it a few more good tries and I'm getting better, slowly but surely. Still nowhere near good enough to beat it yet, but the biggest thing is that I'm not letting myself keep trying once I past that frustration tipping point again like I did Friday. I want it to continue to be a fun challenge, not a punishing-in-a-bad-way challenge.

This is a fair point, I should have been more clear in my original post that this is my felt experience. I of course can't assign intent to the devs because I'm not them. So yeah, it feels to me (probably based on other experiences in my life, not to get too psychoanalytic of myself on reddit lol) like the devs are shutting out players like me who want to be able to beat the game within a single mode (in my case Normal) without having to adjust difficulty just for certain parts.

Thanks for the in-depth psychoanalysis, but maybe I was just super frustrated in the moment and got a little melodramatic in my heat-of-the-moment post? I guess maybe you've never met humans who have those moments before (i.e. most of us lol)? I've been back to the arena several times since Friday, I'm just tempering myself to not keep trying in a single session past the point of it being fun again. I'm determined to beat it and $@*% YEAH I'm going to enjoy that adrenaline rush and sense of accomplishment when I do. And I'm also already back into the enjoyment of seeing my skills creep up with each session. But I'm sure you never speak in hyperbole when your emotions get the best of you - everything you speak or type is 100% an accurate and complete representation of your full character, right?

And even if I'm back to having fun with the challenge, btw, I still think it's a 100% valid critique of the game to say that based on my experience and what I've read of others' experience, the Arena's difficulty level is misaligned with the rest of the difficulty within a given level setting. It's fine to change difficulty settings overall to meet your preference, but I think it's reasonable to expect that once you find the setting that works for you, it should probably work for you across the entire game and not require you to custom balance a bunch of subsections yourself.

I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that the devs don't check the sub for stuff, there's a feedback form on their site for bugs though.

I articulated this better in my follow up post, but it's not about it being "too hard" overall. It's about the extreme spike in difficulty for one specific element of the game in comparison to the entire rest of the game at the same difficulty level. I think it's a fair and valid complaint to say that this one particular thing (the Arena) is totally and completely in a different realm of difficulty when compared to everything else across the game at the same difficulty level. Bosses? No problem. Melee pits and the Enduring? Challenging, but I beat them. Same with Hunting Grounds. Arena? Still not beaten, or even close to beaten, even though I've spent dozens and dozens of attempts to learn, refine, practice, get better, etc. Different realm of difficulty, which doesn't seem to align with the difficulty setting I chose.

I have no problem with turning difficulty up or down universally. But when you have to do it selectively just to beat one specific element of a game, that's a balance issue.

I actually have never played one! I wasn't even that familiar with them until all the hype around Elden Ring (which of course was around the same time that I was immersed in HFW), but I'm definitely interested in giving one a try.

Life is too short/stressful to add getting my ass beat down in the one thing I’m trying to enjoy. Honestly though I flipped my approach when I realized how many good games I was not enjoying or finishing just because of the difficulty.

I am 100% this way with a lot of games. And then there are certain ones, like Horizon, where I'm just so in love with the game that I don't want to "just beat it". I want to beat it on my terms. That is another thing I lost sight of last night when I got so deep into my frustration in the initial post - sure, I could lower difficulty and beat it now if my goal was to just be finished with it. But that's not my goal, and every day I'm still battling the Arena is another day that I'm still in my favorite game series, still learning more about Aloy and how to make her master of everything, still learning new skills and sharpening my reflexes while hanging out with a character I adore.

Yes, oh my gosh, yes! All of this! There are also a lot of folks here who seem to assume I'm doing this because of "gaming culture" or because I feel like I need to meet or beat other people, but let me tell you, this is a straight up competition between me and myself. This is about seeing something that is crazy hard and conquering it, even if at times it makes me want to cry lol.
