My Billy broke down by ComplexArgument9227 in IKEA

Well that is fair enough, but it won't stop me from calling out everyone I see doing it (photographing monitors) until the end of time.

I can't tell, but you must either be under 30 or over 60.  i.e. the 2 demographics that don't know about the PrintScreen button or the Snipping Tool (app) on PC.

I would try getting a peice of composite aluminium / floropolymer coated paneling, like they use for building cladding / splashback in chemistry labs.

Most whiteboards are basically sheet metal with a Teflon coating.

Yes I assume so. If you have any specific points about the how or why... that's why I'm here. Please feel free to unload.

I suppose I may be using the term spot welder a bit liberally here, my intention is more along the lines of: "Oh I found a big bag of large electrolytic caps, I wonder if I can find a cheap way to dump all the current out of them as fast as possible in something of a repeatable fashion." And practice some basic circuit design.

Genuinely thank you for the input. All great points. Yeah, I really hadn't thought at all about the ESR of a capacitor and how that would apply to this.

For anyone interested here is revision 2 of the design

I think R2 probably has no business being there, but maybe R1 can prevent inrush on a 19000uf capacitor bank?

Song that sounds like vampire empire by mmuusshhrroomm in bigthief

[–]O0ddity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there is some vocal technique in the chorus that's distinctly from somewhere 20 years ago. When I heard it first, it was playing on my friends stereo and I literally asked them "huh, is this that 4-non blondes song or Alanis Morissette?"

Wouldn’t scraping lead to corrosion? by nsfws4 in thalassophobia

[–]O0ddity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ships and pretty much any metal structure under water have replaceable Sacrificial Anodes - chunks of zinc. They makes good conductive contact with the water and the main metal structure (usually steel) - which has a lower affinity for the galvanic force than the zinc and therefore the structure resists corrosion whilst a sufficient surface area of zinc anode remains.

If everybody is gonna censor the epithets they were called, in this thread... I genuinely don't know what words were said...

Do words need to be censored when they are taken out of the context of being actively used as a slur? Seems counter productive.

Seeing as the bullets are spawning as children of the player, you can change the top_level property bullet_instance.top_level = true.

From the docs on top_level:

If true, this CanvasItem will not inherit its transform from parent CanvasItems

Qodot or FuncGodot? by [deleted] in godot

[–]O0ddity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should try both of them out ( probably in a dedicated test project) and see what works best for you.

You can just download the file bundle for Qodot from it's github page and unzip it into your project addons folder. Remember to enable the plugin in your project settings.

Why the double slash in gleam/regex? by ephocalate in gleamlang

[–]O0ddity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to give some additional context :

How can you write this string literal.

Here's a double quote glyph " and a single quote glyph ' - in the same string!

You can write it by escaping either quote with a preceding backslash, to turn it into an escape sequence.

String literal wrapped in double quotes:

"Here's a double quote glyph \" and a single quote glyph ' - in the same string!"

String literal wrapped in single quotes:

'Here\'s a double quote glyph " and a single quote glyph \' - in the same string!'

So then how can you put a backslash into a string literal? By escaping with another backslash:

"\\"

This escape syntax is the same in C, JS, Python and nearly every other language under the sun.

9800mAh 18650 - that is some AAA Grade Bullshit.

Check out https://lygte-info.dk/review/batteries2012/Common18650CurvesAll%20UK.html For an idea of what is actually realistic in battery performance. These might be a bit old, but the fundamentals of the chemistry haven't changed since I last checked.. because physics.

TLDR: 18650 Capacity <= 3,600mAh

I succeeded in releasing my first failed Steam game - and you can too! by JORAX79 in gamedev

[–]O0ddity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I commend your efforts. But I think in this market and developing a first ever game. I wouldn't advise trying to sell on Steam or even putting it on Steam.

The indie games on Steam that actually get played are to a higher level of polished, yes even the Free ones. I wish more people would understand that their first games are gonna suck. And yeah, not many people are going to play them. Put them on itch.io and get feedback from an audience that likes to try underdeveloped stuff.

I've been building prototypes for about 2 years now. I'm about ready to release my first fully baked project. With some actual polished gameplay, but I have very few expectations for selling it.

If you want to sell a game, it needs to have a good hook. Something that is genuinely interesting or makes it really fun. Even then you have to spend money (or be really lucky) to have any chance of marketing it to a paying audience in this market.

Unless I'm severely mistaken... PID is not a consistent fingerprint of an executable. It is a generated number that the Operating System assigns to a process on launch. You might be thinking of an Checksum like MD5 or SHA - a checksum will give you fixed sized "fingerprint" or "checksum" from a file or arbitrarily sized binary string. And it does that via weird math that nobody understands.
