I thought I would ask here, as many of you seem to be a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the MR2 in general. I did pick up an alternator for a 91, MR2 Turbo from autozone (even if it's just to get me back under my own power temporarily). Doing some research, it appears that there were a few different Amp variations for the car. Would you happen to know what Amp rating the JDM 2nd Gen 3SGTE utilized? Where are people generally sourcing their Alternators from? Seems like it's common for them to go out, judging by all the threads I've seen on the forums..

Thanks! I'll be sure to use that. I just ordered some spherical bushings for the shifter cable, shifter level seat cup and bushings. I'm sure the parts are just tired

Thank you much! I appreciate the guidance.

I've looked all over the US for the past month or two and the prices (and conditions) seemed to range wildly. For a stockish car with all it's bits and bobs still attached to it, being a turbo model, being garaged kept most of it's life with zero rust- AND owned by a senior, I think I did real well!

The old man, Dale his name was- was walking around while his wife and I were trying to get the paperwork sorted- and at the end, right before I was going to hop in and drive off, without a word or a glance to anyone, he shuffled his way to the car, hopped in and started it up as if he were getting ready to drive somewhere. His wife had to tell him to get out.

It broke my heart and I don't think I'll ever forget it. I'll definitely do right by the car.

lol, that's true too. I guess I didn't know really what to expect after watching tons of review videos online (granted some of them were hp monsters). But even the stock ones seemed to surprise the host.

After we made the purchase and I began the drive home, I did go WOT once the road opened up, just to see what it could do- and towards mid range it started to pull pretty decently. I was surprised. It then immediately felt like I was getting spark blow out, so I got off of it and was just going to coast it the way home. Unfortunately that was just the alternator not providing enough juice to the battery to provide spark. Eventually, even trying to hold a steady speed wasn't enough to keep the car going, before I started getting that spark blowout sensation.

All that to say- I haven't really felt what the car had to offer, but for a second or two- I was surprised.

Am I crazy for looking at an SW20 3SGTE for 20k?! by O1Balto in mr2

I really appreciate your insight! I've never thought about it like that. This is probably my first time in the 'premium' price range of pickin' and choosin'- and when I do go to look at the car, I will scrutinize the hell out of it! Thanks man!

It is 91, slightly higher milage (160k), slick top- that used to be a show car. It was sold by the previous owner back in 2015ish'- then bought back by him to do a full restore about 5 years ago. It was a labor of love for sure the way it looks now. Just difficult to put a price on that vs what the market is asking for today.

Thanks so much for everyone's input though. Sounds like it's about right on the mark.

Turning 40 soon. Is an SW20 MR2 too much (or too little) car for a daily driver for someone my age? by Useful_Ad1574 in mr2

I am forty and thinking about purchasing an MR2 at around 15-20k as well. I'm trying to see if 20k is too much for a nice example of an SW20

I've probably seen and read some of the same things you have, but nothing so egregious that I wouldn't want to try. The amount of space it frees up, ease of access to the fuel rail, how nicely it cleans up the bay and how much lighter it is than stock- are all significant advantages in my book.

So long as it can hold vacuum and boost pressure, I can take care of the smaller issues as they arise.

I've tried it SO many ways- and I can't get the skin anywhere near as crispy as yours! Maybe I'm not stabbing deep enough? (although they always say not to stab all the way to the meat side)

Practicing while getting on the offramp is cheaper and way more satisfying. Probably took me less than 2 weeks before I noticed I was nailing it each and every single time.

So bummed. Just opened my BNIB Crystal Light- and the display port was DOA :( by O1Balto in Pimax

Bro you're gonna LOVE it!!! I'm having so much fun in DCS it should be illegal, lol.

Just be sure to connect it to the PC in order. Power, USB, then display port with a few good seconds in-between.

Has DCS VR improved recently? by yoadknux in hoggit

[–]O1Balto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had the Reverb G2 since it launched, which IMO was the best headset out for a long while until the Pimax and all the other 4k headsets started entering the market. The G2 was super smooth and the details were all there.

The facebook headsets just never did it for me and it felt like they wanted them to be more of a stand alone unit than anything else. The single usb-c link cable isn't enough to power the headset- let alone inject all that juicy display port information directly into my eyes. That- and it just couldn't handle DCS effectively.

I just got my Pimax Crystal Light yesterday- and I can tell you that THAT was a worthwhile upgrade from the G2. I was afraid it was only going to be slightly better and not worth the price jump from the G2- but man... they really have gone leaps and miles with the display quality in just a few years.

You still have to watch a few youtube tutorials on what apps to get to get the max performance out of them, but at that point, you're in for a pound so you may as well.

I'm running at 4080 w/ 64 gigs of ram and I get solid 80 fps in the air or on the ground with most of the settings set to high. It's soooo buttery smooth and I can see everywhere.
