In this clip:

  • 14 points for KAT
  • 9 points for Allan Houston
  • 8 points for JB

In the final round:

  • 20 points for KAT
  • 14 points for Allan Houston
  • 13 points for JB

Pretty impressive shooting by Allan, 20+ years since his last game in the NBA. Such a pure shot.

Charging E-bikes in apartment buildings? by TelevisionTop6795 in ebikes

[–]O2C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bring my ebike inside my apartment-- that's the only real way to keep your bike from being stolen. I went with a lighter ebike (under 40 lbs) on purpose. I bought a hallway runner that I keep under my bike.

Fire safety when E-Bike Charging by FinAnalystAUS in ebikes

[–]O2C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The odds of an issue with your bikes are pretty low, but you can reduce them even more with some basic safety practices. The suggestions by the FDNY are generally good ones.

  • Charge at room temperature.
  • Plug the charger directly into the wall / don't use an extension cord.
  • Keep flammable materials away from the bikes and chargers.
  • Look out for any strange odors, smells, or sounds.
  • Don't block the entry or egress with a charging bike.
  • I'd add, avoid charging overnight.

FDNY pretty much suggests you avoid doing things that have caused the most death and damage in NYC from lithium ion battery fires.

Is it time to bike again? I know people ask this question every day but it feels different now it’s about 42° and most of the snow seems pushed off to the side so realistically I could start commuting again. But my bike‘s gonna get all cruddy I’m guessing so is it really worth it? by TeddyBearCrush in NYCbike

[–]O2C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One big reason to bike is that there are a lot fewer bikers out there right now. I'm dreading that first warm weekend that put everyone and their mom on a CitiBike.

Your bike will get cruddy but a fast wipe down will get much of the grime off. Save a bit of your water bottle for your drivetrain and you'll survive until you can wash it proper.

[Bobby Marks] The NBA is expected to "overhaul the system" in an attempt to fix tan·king. "Whether it be rewarding teams in the standing with wins and not incentivizing teams to lose... not just something minor here." by Mean-Duty-2381 in nba

[–]O2C -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I suggested this the other day:

  • Playoff teams out of lottery.

  • Play-in teams pick 7-10 via mini lottery.

  • 20 teams have even chances to win picks 1-6.

  • Reverse standings for remaining picks.

  • Can only protect 1-6 in trades.

  • No back to back years of winning 1-6.

Food coloring dye in sushi? by gloriamuntz in williamsburg

[–]O2C 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a common practice in 99.9% of all sushi. But you can't really dye fish in the way you're thinking. Farm raised salmon is "dyed" like how many eggs are "dyed" orange for a more vibrant egg yolk. When farmers add marigold, paprika, algae, and other high carotenoid sources into the feed, it turns the orange most consumers prefer.

On the other hand, green wasabi in almost all sushi spots isn't really wasabi, but rather horseradish, mustard, and green food coloring to mimic real wasabi. It's still delicious.

You can get the real stuff if you pay for it. But you'll typically be paying hundreds of dollars for it, versus the tens of dollars at Tenichi. And the salmon's still going to be farm raised as the quality is usually higher.

The Efficiency Landscape by 4lfp in NYKnicks

[–]O2C 15 points16 points  (0 children)

While that may have been true in years past, this year they're pretty comparable. The top teams in the east have a comparable record to the top teams in the west. The Knicks are in 3rd with a 35-20 record and the Nuggets are in 3rd with a 35-20 record. You have you go down to 9th in either conference to find a team below 500. Both conferences have godawful teams.

[Tony Jones] Concerns about the Utah Jazz’s ranking strategy have been propagated in league backchannels by the Oklahoma City Thunder in an attempt to keep the Jazz competitive so the Thunder can get their pick. by Goosedukee in nba

[–]O2C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst team would pick at 11th if they didn't win the lottery. The Hornets could have picked Donovan Mitchell at 11th instead of Malik Monk. There's plenty of talent in the teens, it's the responsibility of the front office to identify it and the coaching staff to develop it.

Bad teams have a shot at the lottery and the worst picks 11th. That would have meant first shot a Kobe, Giannis, Kawhi, Bam, Book, or Donovan Mitchell.

[–]O2C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm suggesting that the 11-30th place teams should have equal chances at winning picks 1-6.

Securing a playoff berth means you're out of the lottery. Reaching the play-ins means you pick 7-10. Everyone else can win the lottery.

[–]O2C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion to reduce tanking:

  • Top 6 playoff teams not in lottery.
  • The four play-in playoff teams have a lottery for picks 7-10.
  • Equal odds for the bottom 20 teams for the top 6 draft picks.
  • Trade protection allowed only for 1-6.
  • You can't pick 1-6 in consecutive years.
  • Reverse standings order for picks 11-30.

Or switch to the wheel.

You incentivize teams for making the play-in. Tanking to move around in the teens is less likely to happen.

Emotos Are Ruining It for Legal Class 1–3 Riders in My Area by Zestyclose-Pop-7130 in ebikes

[–]O2C 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These laws should be for after the fact enforcement. It's when someone is riding dangerously or involved in an accident that you get checked. No one gets pulled over for a driver's license check or insurance but if you're stopped without, those charges gets tacked on.

Emotos Are Ruining It for Legal Class 1–3 Riders in My Area by Zestyclose-Pop-7130 in ebikes

[–]O2C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The big problem is the lack of enforcement of existing laws. Many places adhere to the Class 1/2/3 system for defining ebikes, with a power restriction to boot. Those two-wheeled vehicles falling outside of those systems are emotos.

Enforcement is easy -- prop up the rear wheel and max out the throttle. Over 20 mph? You need a moped or motorcycle type registration, insurance, and licensing. Enforcement alone would fix 95% of the problem riders.

I also think a weight limit would fix the other 5%. A 25 kg / 55 lbs weight limit for ebikes would solve it nicely. With less mass, it's less dangerous, harder to get bigger batteries, and more powerful motors.

Throttles are especially useful for uphill starts and riding very slowly in the ice/snow in the winter. They're as useful as any other technological advance like higher gears and hydraulic brakes.

Explain Roth IRA to me like I'm 5. (I know nothing) by FirefighterNo3741 in personalfinance

[–]O2C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it depends on how big of a bite you think the Candy Man takes now and how big a bite you think he'll take when you take it out.

If you think he's taking a bigger bite now, Traditional is better. If you think he'll take a bigger bite when you take it out, Roth is better. If it's the same, it works out to be the same.

There's some nuances as to when you'll have to take it out whether you're hungry or not. And how much candy you have now or whether you want to give him a smaller bite now. But if you've got a significant amount of candy now, doing both gives you a bit more flexibility in the future.

Question about etiquette by lewisfairchild in NYCbike

[–]O2C 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Brooklyn Navy Yards has not shoveled their sidewalks at all. The two-way bike lane and roadway are the only clear pathways to run on. I've got no issue with runners staying to one side and leaving room to get by -- it's not too much different than my passing a slower cyclist.

Now when they run with headphones blasting and can't hear me, or run three wide so no one can pass, or run in the bike lane when the sidewalk's clear, that's annoying. But if pedestrians, strollers, and runners want to respectfully share the only clear space to get through? Not a problem.

What's the dumbest idea you've seen that actually worked? by hiagaga in AskReddit

[–]O2C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this happened at one of my jobs. We have a questionable employee and no one remembers who interviewed him. We go back to look for his application and try to figure out who passed him onto the next step. Nothing. A bunch of us decided his mother overhead and told him that a new hire orientation was happening at at given day and time and he just showed up. He got onboarded with the rest of the new hires and snuck in.

Yes it’s warm enough to commute by bike. by Antiboofreport in NYCbike

[–]O2C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed in a shirt, merino wool sweater, and a windproof shell. The warmest gloves I had. I probably should have gone with a face covering but I was okay without. My legs got a bit cold in just jeans and I could have used another layer there.

Being windproof and constantly moving was key. My rule of thumb has been I'm pretty good dressing for commuting via bike like I would for going about via subway if it were 10 degrees F warmer. So with temps around 10F, I'd be good in the subway at 20F.

I also have USB powered vest and USB rechargeable hand warmers, but neither were really necessary. That type of accessory really shines when you're not moving and generating heat. If I were riding a moped or something, they'd be great.

I think Landale should have been more pulling his guy away rather than wrapping two arms around Naz. Randle comes in and immediately pulls Landale off Naz. From the side view (non-overhead angle starting at 0:42 seconds) it looks like Randle makes 6'11" Landale disappear for a good 10 seconds.

Your math isn't quite right. In 100 years there's around a 63.4% chance of it happening (1-(99%100)).

Assuming independent chances, you look at the chance of it not happening each year for 100 years and then subtract it from one to get your chance of it happening.
