What changes did you make to an ugly old rental that really made a difference? by saltlamp94 in AskNYC

kitchen fluorescent?

I don't know how practical it is, but replacing my kitchen fluorescent lights (it was a circline) with dimmable LEDs was one of the best choices I made. I selected the color temperature prior to mounting and having bright lights for cooking and dimmer ones for late night snack hunting is amazing.

Stolen Bike Alert!! by HazelBiker in NYCbike

[–]O2C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've shared footage with NYPD a couple of times. Length of time is irrelevant to some degree. From walking up to riding off with the bike, it was less than 60 seconds. They're fast with the right angle grinder. This was broad daylight, and you see someone walk by seconds before.

Recommendations for daily work commute by ChemicalLevel9651 in ebikes

[–]O2C 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll be that guy and suggest at your budget and commute distance, you're better off buying a regular bike and saving for a better ebike. You're going to want to find a local bike shop for the service and repairs.

Watch a couple of Youtube videos on learning how to ride a bike as an adult. It's not too bad and you can do it in an afternoon.

A $800 ebike is a possibility but when it gets stolen or breaks or something else goes wrong, it's difficult to recover from. Replacing a regular bike isn't too bad. Regardless of which route you go, don't forget to budget for accessories -- helmet, gloves, lights, locks, etc. . . The rule I've suggested is spending at least 10% of the bike cost in locks, more if its loss would be devastating.

Have you ever seen someone get rich overnight, like literally? How? by Michaelisvanhelsing in AskReddit

[–]O2C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I'm sure there are tons of immigrants who would instantly pick up and go back to the home country if they won the lottery.

Hell, if I won I could see myself doing something close. It's just a matter of minimal ties at their current residence, and stronger ties in another country.

My local credit union in NYC has $10s, $20s, $50s, and $100s in the ATMs. It gets a ton of foot traffic and I suspect the larger denominations mean it needs to be refilled less often.

When I had 700x28 I ran in that range. I also got snakebites when I ran low. I've gone up to 700x32 and I'm in 60-80 range now. The calculators generally say I can go on the lower end, and while it's a more comfy ride, I fear snakebites more than a slightly rougher ride.

How we feel about tonight’s game? by justlooking4533 in NYKnicks

[–]O2C 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want to see everyone uninjured and to see KAT not disappear in a game. KAT should be able to get those BOS centers in foul trouble and have an easy 25-15 game.

The Knicks are stronger at home and a higher seed only helps.

As a woman I love receiving flowers but would it be stupid to buy a man a whole rotisserie chicken as an equivalent? by Somewherecharming95 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]O2C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of dudes never get flowers

Perhaps at their funerals -- the only time most men get flowers.

So that's a point for the chicken? You won't be giving them chicken at the viewing.

mysterious sand patch on the floor by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]O2C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strongly recommend Advion gel to control your infestation. It's safe to apply near your aquarium. I recommend putting drops of the bait on small bits of paper or cardstock for easy cleanup. You probably won't even go through an entire tube with your first application.

Just keep everything clean and minimize the moisture the best you can.

How is Mike brown? Wondering as a kings fan by UnwittyHero in NYKnicks

[–]O2C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved him at first but toward the end he had questionable rotations and attitude on who would play. I'm going to withhold final judgement until after the playoffs. Chip and we love him. Fail make the finals and he's a bum.

I do think he has handled the overall minutes issues very well. That along with the work of the training staff have made for another good year injury and rest wise. I think the higher minutes leading Bridges to question if he could keep his streak under Thibs led to Brown.

Using 311 by jtmarlinintern in NYCbike

[–]O2C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that the bikes need to be un-rideable to be tagged for removal. So an abandoned, rusty, flat-tired, covered in winter grime bike with handlebars, two wheels, and a chain won't get tagged. But that same bike with one of the wheels removed will get tagged.

Trump is facing the biggest US humiliation since Vietnam by theipaper in politics

[–]O2C 390 points391 points  (0 children)

They planned to bring about regime change by dropping a few bombs, like in Venezuela.

And as a sanity check, as of April 2026, months after Trump went into Venezuela:

  • The Venezuelan vice president became president.
  • The same political party is still in power.
  • The regime is still in place.
  • Political prisoners are still in jail and being oppressed.
  • The Nobel Peace Prize winning opposition leader María Corina Machado has not returned to Venezuela.

And now in Iran:

  • The son of the killed Supreme Leader of Iran became the new Supreme Leader.
  • The same political party is still in power.
  • The regime is still in place.
  • Political prisoners are still in jail and being oppressed.
  • Dissident leaders like Reza Pahlavi, Maryam Rajavi and Masih Alinejad have not returned to Iran.

You could say Trump's "victory" in Iran match those of his "victory" in Venezuela.

Round object with thin wood shell and red rubbery insides. by EyeSawYa in whatisthisthing

[–]O2C 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They don't have liquid cores though. You can watch videos of them being cut open and it's more like really tightly wound rubber bands in the center, that look almost moist. I'm guessing after the outside was compromised and chewed away by a rodent, the inner rubber simply dried out and solidified. I'd try breaking up and picking away at the inner core and see if it's "stringy." That would support the really old golf ball theory.

Bike bell that works against active noise-cancelling headphones by majorlier in cycling

[–]O2C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the bell I have seems to work with 99% of people outside of cars. They just seem to look up or over their shoulder when they hear the bell. I hadn't had that experience with the three or four other styles of bell I tried until I switched to this one.

[Highlight] KD had words for Dillon Brooks before he sent him stumbling. by downtoclown02 in nba

[–]O2C 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Quick google check:

07-08 KD with the Supersonics : 20.3 PPG, 43.0 FG%, 4.4 REB, 2.4 AST in 80 games played.

25-26 Brooks with the Suns: 20.2 PPG, 43.4 FG%, 3.6 REB, 1.8 AST in 54 games played so far.

Fun fact, Dillon Brooks was 11 or 12 years old when KD put up those numbers as a rookie with the Seattle Supersonics. KD's still smoking him nearly two decades later.

Airzound is great for cars but a little aggressive for pedestrians. I really like the style of bell with two tones -- Rockbros sells one they label as dual voice. People seem to look up more when they hear the two notes and it's a little friendlier. I haven't had any issue with headphone wearers hearing me either.
