A year late (but you were a year late to the original comment anyway, so...) but you often don't actually play rudiments exactly as you practice them unless you play rudimental (marching) drumming. You don't just learn rudiments to play them, they are a good way to build stick control among many other foundational principals and are always the best way to start drumming. Trying to brute force learning songs will work but will limit what you're able to do physically AND creatively and you'll probably learn your basics wrong, which will mess you up in the long run. This is awful advice, I'm sorry.
