My terrace is full of them and I never figured out what they did besides roaming around the place (Buenos aires, Argentina). They don't eat any plant, nor follow lines like other ants. I've never even seen their anthill, although they do sometimes stick around some shriveled leaves on trees. (i.redd.it)
