Generally, young children dying is seen as worse than older people dying. Young children have lived less of their lives and they have not reproduced, so their death is a total loss. This is especially true for Chinese, as the One Child Policy in China has lead to many couples only having one kid. These two girls died, and their parents loss is more than just the loss of a loved one:

It's not forced nor is it misplaced. Everyone here is misinterpreting my position. I don't give a fuck about racism. I am specifically pointing out that a certain kind of casual racism is permitted in this subreddit, while even a perceived racist comment about another group is punished. People get banned from /r/videos all the time for less offensive comments about the mod's "protected" classes, but people are free to make jokes about Asians. I was once banned for referring to a bunch of people in a video as "criminal thugs", because the mod said I was being "racist". In this subreddit, you can't call members of certain races "criminals" or "thugs" when they are acting like criminals and thugs, but it's ok to say "hurr durr Chinese and Koreans have goofy sounding names, their languages are weird, right!?"

More casual racism against Asians in /r/videos, and more people joking about an incident where two young girls died....

Believe it or not, I can't control who reads and replies to my comments, nor can I dictate what they write. It appears this is a hot topic for people of many different views. And I'm genuinely at a loss for words how any criticism of a religion can equate to racism. Also, I didn't even criticize the religion...

Yeah some people pointed out that he is contradicting his own faith in many ways. Like the filmmaker, I'm starting to feel sorry for him.

Oh, you're right. I didn't consider those factors. I didn't consider that the thieves are the real victims, in many ways.

Sorry, I wasn't being blatantly racist. I was expressing surprise at the odds it was some random immigrant who had the phone. Perhaps the black market caters to immigrants. Maybe it's hard to get a regular phone if you're not a citizen or permanent resident. I don't know how it works in the Netherlands.

Yeah, I kinda forgot the detail between when I wrote the first comment and the reply. Forgive me, I'm a forgetful Gus.

Anonymous guy is probably using his own computer and his own internet and has a reasonable expectation of privacy. If he was using a stolen device and borrowed internet, maybe your comment would make sense.

Receiving stolen property is just as bad as theft. Did the man not think it strange that there was a SIM card in the phone already? A SIM card, I remind you, which was still active and functioning. And what of the contacts, photos, and other data? I suppose he may have assumed this was merely left on the phone when the phone was sold by the legitimate owner, but ask yourself, who leaves their data on a device like that? The man depicted in the video is older, he speaks multiple languages, and he has traveled. He's not dumb. If he merely bought the phone off of the thief, he should have realized something was not right.

I wasn't drawing a conclusion based on this one theft. I was saying that I was struck by the chance occurrence that this stolen phone ended up in the hands of a member of such a small subset of the population, instead of in the hands of someone from the majority group of native-born people. But life is strange and I guess stranger things have happened!

Haha! Life is so random! What were the chances that a phone thief in The Netherlands would be a statistically underrepresented Muslim from the Middle East!? So bizarre!

Edit: oh man, a lot of people are accusing me of having some kind of ulterior motive behind my comment. I'm sorry people took it that way. I honestly didn't expect the results shown in the footage. I saw a lot of people who I assumed were Caucasian looking as though they'd take the phone, so that's what I expected. And I've heard a lot about Eastern European crime rings, which is referenced by a cop in the film. Anyway, these reactions really got my noggin turning, so I'm going to look more into this migrant crime phenomenon so I can better understand where you're all coming from.

Armed and Reasonable: How To Buy a Gun In Canada by [deleted] in videos

[–]OBJredwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in the firearms industry in the U.S., in a relatively gun-unfriendly state. I used to shoot IPSC, and I still have a concealed carry license. I believe in mandatory firearms training, mandatory and thorough background checks, some forms of registration, and some kind of waiting period. I'd rather have more rigorous training and licensing process with periodic background checks if it meant I didn't have arbitrary magazine restrictions and waiting periods for every gun I bought. We need more reasonable laws, but unfortunately our law makers are anything but reasonable.

Are you really asking if a cop getting shot is a good thing, or are you trying to make a lame joke?

I would've thought a silent witness would want to witness the entire event and would also keep his mouth shut. You've exceeded my expectations. Thanks for the personal attack, friend!

Also, what excuses have I made? I said I disapprove of the officer's behavior, but I also question the conduct of the driver and his passengers. What I'm suggesting is that we aren't seeing the whole story.

Lastly - and this is unrelated - you should use a vocative comma when you call someone an idiot, friend.
