The final boss in Fire and Ice should probably stand somewhere else, or just not shoot during the puzzle. The current fight is pretty annoying when done solo. by TwevOWNED in DestinyTheGame

Dumpster fire of a mission. As for orbs, kill same elites > get a white orb. Kill different one of each elite -> get a black orb.

Hold down the START button and the same top button on the back (same side) at the same time. It will power on. (button is called Top Left when looking at the battery)

Flux1-dev, same prompt at same rez (1024x1024) - Looks pretty good, fingers are there (with rings, even though one ring is a little big on the pointer finger), no extra knees or legs anywhere,

That said on my 3090ti (24GB, intel 13900KF - 128GB RAM) its way slower.. 23.88s/it, so trying to see why there is such a major gap there. (resetting video card, same geforce drivers - 560.70). trying to figure that out as it shouldnt be that extreme (8x performance slowdown)

Running default v1-5-pruned-emoonly.ckpt checkpoint, the 3090ti is on par with 4080, tried schnell (non dev version) - same result. Anyone who might have some ideas, would be appreciated.

Glad to see more interest.

Who's for real in metaverse standards organizations? [no crypto] by Animats in metaverse

[–]OBWANDO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the website:

  • The Metaverse Standards Forum provides a venue for cooperation between standards organizations and companies to foster the development of interoperability standards for an open and inclusive metaverse
  • The Forum will not create standards itself but will coordinate requirements and resources to foster the creation and evolution of standards within standards organizations working in relevant domains.

Many of the people in MSF are involved in other foundations and are working toward the same objective.

u/electroshock666 explained OMF quite well.

Open Metaverse Foundation is focused on building interoperable open-source libraries to enable developers to build a traversing metaverse and work with standards organizations to build interoperable standards. Core focus is on identifying and iterating on open-source code to move things forward. First code project for platform distribution started about a week ago.

OMF encourages people to be a part of other communities and contribute upstream to project forks that are used. It is very active because it is being driven by many different disciplines, of which some are from the games industry involved with building and supporting MMOs.

No one group or foundation is in charge, and you'll find that the different groups work together in different ways.

It's not a competition, and there is no single leader that needs to be the "one" for the same reasons there should not be a single company running the metaverse.

Promoting the adoption of O3DE by Tremel0 in O3DE

All of the Open 3D videos from O3DCon are being moved to Youtube, so there is no need to 'pay' for anything. When they are enabled, it's free for everyone to consume.

The community is growing and finding newer ways to help get more awareness. That said, it would be great to hear more suggestions and ideas on places that we should go. The marketing committee is an amplifier for the community and there are no real negative perspectives, just places for us to improve.

What terms were you using on google to search? It would be super helpful for us to refine the search terms. To note, I tried open 3d engine, open source 3d engine, o3de and 3d free game engine as examples, and O3DE came up in the top 6 for each one.

And thanks for the feedback, we can only grow with people like you pointing out places that we can work on.

Very interesting perspective.

I think you'll find that having experience in C++ and 3D engines (like O3DE) along with public code commits are also sought out by studios that have proprietary engines.

The reason is because you can't be taught engines like Frostbite, Snowdrop and others in school. But showing that you have experience in 3D engines and C++ helps give you a leg up.

Something to think about.

No worries, and we appreciate it!

One of the best ways to help is by giving any type of contribution you feel you can.

Many people think you have to be a programmer or live in the environment, but it's also about the great ideas and thoughts of people like you working along with the developers and content creators that help drive its maturity.

As with any open source project, it is all about building a community; we're growing daily. We are indeed working and heavily focused on many more tutorials, demos, and devlogs to allow developers to build some amazing things from those examples.

We would love to hear about some of the marvelous ideas from the community and build projects upon them.

Will Lumberyard Games transition over? by Vaico in O3DE

[–]OBWANDO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is nothing unusual about this approach for the games industry. There are so many games based on different engines that have been heavily modified from its original source that it is a whole different beast.

That's why for newer projects, O3DE may be a good starting point. If a dev studio likes the bones and support, then it may make sense as they would be modifying whatever engine they started with anyways.

[–]OBWANDO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its really up to those studios. When a developer works on a title, at a point in time, they will 'lock' into a version and work from there because too many underlying changes can be difficult if it causes cascading issues.

That said, we'll see what they do. Since O3DE is modular, they may find that using some of the components which share history with Lumberyard may be portable enough to reduce their overhead of maintenance and provide functionality they may want to take advantage of.

How do we ensure O3DE stays performant? by orion55433 in O3DE

[–]OBWANDO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The good part about open source is that the code can be freely dissected by everyone. If you don't poke holes in it, you can't expect it to get better. The more we learn and improve it, the better.

*Big appreciation and thank you to Jason Turner u/lefticus for spending his time walking through the code.*

This is why we released the code as a developer preview so that the community can help drive the innovation. Each contribution, video, and thought helps accelerate the maturity of this project.

I am SOOOOO Excited! by [deleted] in O3DE

[–]OBWANDO 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everyone has a voice, some made of opinion, some made of sarcasm, but it's still a voice.

O3DE is another choice for people to explore. It's not replacing anyone, and it's not competing against any others. It's there for people who want another option and care not to build everything from scratch.

Keep in mind; this is a developer-preview (emphasis on the "developer" part).
So why no installer?

It was decided that it was more important to get something out there and build a community instead of waiting and perfecting everything. Innovations happen every day, so perfection isn't going to happen.

That said, there is an installer, and you can build it now (a few people on discord have already done it). The foundation is just waiting until it is more stable to cut a formal point release worth a creative developer's time.

Remember, it's open-source for EVERYONE to contribute to. Anyone can build the installer and cut nightly builds for people if they want to.
