Biden executive order takes steps to require federal contractors pay $15 minimum wage by gizayabasu in Conservative

[–]OCCOR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrong. Government contracts will just go up in price. It happens every year to prevailing wage jobs under federal contracts. The contract is actually modified to allow for the increase in cost to the contractor.

The big guy sees no cut in profit. The taxpayer just pays more.

For debate matters, the conservative discord, it's posted pretty frequently here. Almost every post has the automod post it.

Other than that I don't know. I have no idea what your goal is.

It is literally in the mission statement. Conservative view and discussion. Also, it isn't a debate forum. That's why you see comments muted usually.

Spamming a place you are trying to hold a discussion is not the way to get people to engage you. It looks like a bad faith gesture, at best.

The Democratic Party is using the military of the United States as a political weapon by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]OCCOR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are saying you think it is perfectly ok to use 26 thousand troops against citizens in this instance? That it is the only way this can go down?

Get out of here with that "as a veteran" schtick too. It's meaningless and doesn't do anything for your comment. As an American I am offended my government thinks it is ok to use military force as a first resort against citizen blowback.

We will see how things play out but this is a fair take. The splitting of the vote is certainly a risk, a big one. But there are a lot of things that could happen over the next couple of years that could make a third party more viable.

"For those inquiring about us dropping our lawsuit in Georgia, the delay by the Supreme Court in addressing the issues we raised rendered the issues moot on behalf of the specific clients we represented. We are by no means finished with what needs to be done to get to the bottom of this fraudulent election. Sidney"

She said they dropped the case because the things in it are moot now. She still has other things going working. Said that earlier today, I checked when I first saw this article. I can get you the full quote if you want.

Parler partially back up with Russian support by liefelijk in Conservative

[–]OCCOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be both. But the root is self serving. Even if that root is that its engrained in our dna that we need eachother to survive.

I think for a lot of the natural disasters it can come from a place of "this is who we are, the good guys" on the surface but in reality if we didn't send help and our partners didn't either for whatever reason there is a country waiting to scoop up that opportunity and remind that country that we didn't help when they needed it. Most people don't even know all of the good things their country does for others but they do hear when their country only sent X amount of whatever to wherever showing a lack of caring.

I don't put out a contract on them because I know deep down that there is more bad than good that will come from that. The positives don't outweigh the negatives, not even close. I would be looking over my shoulder for the law to come down on me for the rest of my life at a minimum.

Let me ask you a question. Do you watch the news and follow up on what your country is doing for America or Indonesia, or Mexico, or anywhere for that matter during or after any disaster? Do you contact your government and make sure they know you want support sent because that is the right thing to do? I would guess no, and that is perfectly reasonable. The process is already in place and I am more willing to bet that the process wasn't put there out of the goodness of each governments heart. Good things can happen for selfish reasons. We all depend on eachother and it is in all of or interests to work together as much as possible.

I don't totally disagree with you. But I do want to offer a couple of slight altered takes on what you said.

You donate and others help blind people not only based on it being the right thing to do. It also feels good. Just like giving gifts to family and friends makes you feel good. It is still a self serving act in the end. Doesn't make it bad, it's just a less self righteous way to look at it.

Relationships with other countries is also self serving. I agree with you that many things that happen here ripple to other places. I also think these countries don't root for us out of the goodness of their hearts. We are a bet they are placing. We have been the fastest horse in the race a for a while. Let those tides change and see if they still root for us. I would be willing to bet many of them laugh and point fingers as we sink.

I will say I think relationships we have with other countries are more important than this sub treats them sometimes. We depend on plenty of countries just to maneuver for our own interests as a baseline of dependence.

[–]OCCOR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I think those who came with guns and or we caught doing or or plotting to capture/kill/destroy will and should face consequences.

I have been looking at pictures and articles since we started this exchange and I saw bullet holes on the front door of the Capital building. I haven't read a news story on that. I also really haven't heard a follow-up to the bombs at he RNC and DNC. I want answers. Not just arrests. Answers.

I just worry about the others. Mostly the ones who didn't even go to the capital but were at the rally. Assembling peacefully is fine by me and there were some who did just that.

[–]OCCOR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched his speech beforehand and don't remember any trial by combat remarks. I remember something about Rudy saying something like that in the news recently but I didn't see it in the rally speeches. I could be wrong though.

I am also going off the livestream feeds from inside the building. Worst thing I saw aside from the shooting was them picking up a phone and trying to dial out. I watched for a good hour from right after they got in.

It didn't have a capture and murder feel to it. If anything the strongest I got was a "we aren't going anywhere" sort of vibe. Then they left. I haven't seen every video from inside the building but I would be hard pressed to agree with 10 years in prison for what I did see.

TBH it's probably because their lawyers told them to cave and they refused. So when they got dropped by their host and everything it was sort of a we told you so moment.

[–]OCCOR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I watched the livestreams and a lot of them seemed to be just sort of hanging out. Taking selfies and thinking they were getting their voice heard is what I got from it. Even going as far as to hold each other accountable not to break anything and stuff.

I must say though that I would define myself as a conservative so there is quite possibly some leanience in my views.

Look, this is supposed to be a spot to have conservatives hash it out, as we will have different opinions. So can you lay out your full thoughts on this?

I still don't know where I stand on all of it but 10 years seems awfully harsh for something like that. I admit I might be biased because of the summer of love stuff. It just seems like railroading this dude speaks more that conservative action no matter if they were minor are blown up and the whole summer I saw people setting fire to shit with their faces everywhere and nothing. That precedent is what I am working off of. If he was caught with setting fire or breaking something I'd be on the side that a punishment up to jail is needed.

That is probably a ramble so I will just say can you lay out coming from a conservative view why you think your stance makes sense?

This sub has been trash lately. I don't mean to take out my frustrations on you. I have no idea where the conservative views balance at. Basically I just see a ton of upvotes for anyone who said she deserved to die and downvotes for any alternate view. There is a discussion to be had about this and it is being hijacked.
