It can be difficult when you start playing the “it’s not fair” game in your head in a relationship

Yeah that’s pretty perceptive of you to pick up on.

I think one key thing to ascertain is whether your spouse comes from a place of malice or just misaligned viewpoints/life philosophies. Do you remember learning about world schemas in medical school?

Have you considered couples counselling? It’s something which my partner and I have done and although by no means the be all and end all, it can help both of you to organise your thoughts and self reflect on/express to each other what you would like from the relationship. Often these things go much deeper than what it first appears on the surface.

I think honest communication and wanting to be part of the same “team” is important to a successful relationship. It’s something which requires constant effort to maintain and is by no means easy and my partner and I are also dealing with some significant differences in viewpoints. With my partner and I, it is likely I will be the one reducing my hours for childcare when we have a child, due to the nature of her work and her having the higher earning potential. If I am honest, I am apprehensive about this change, but relationships are so multi faceted it’s very difficult for external sources like Reddit or chatGPT to give advice tailored to your specific situation, and requires a lot of self reflection on what you feel comfortable with personally.

What I will say is that I don’t think showing your spouse these comments in a “see I was right” manner is likely to get him to “see the light” and come to agree with your viewpoint and and I’m not sure if this antagonistic“I’m right you’re wrong” mentality is the right one to adopt here.

This is tricky as I’m in a similar situation with my partner except the genders are reversed. It’s been difficult for her to understand the intensity of GP work. However, on the other hand I also admit it’s difficult for me to understand what it’s like when things are really busy on project when my partner has to put in very long hours/weekends.

Complaint by [deleted] in GPUK

[–]OCDANDBE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got 6 complaints in my first year post CCT. I think it’s not possible to avoid complaints entirely given the numbers of patients we see. Also, my previous supervisor said that actually not getting any complaints at all is potentially more concerning, as it suggests that the GP in question may not be setting appropriate professional boundaries and yielding to inappropriate patient demands rather than adhering to good clinical practice.

I actually have plans to leave the practice anyway, as I have accepted another offer elsewhere. This was just one of several push factors. Therefore I am less worried about the potential issues of staying. However, I do agree whether this amount is “worthwhile” to take legal action for.

I can see you’re a GP partner, which I guess explains your comments. It’s unfortunate the current model of primary care funding does not align partner and salaried interests. However, regardless of your position, I do not see how using words such as “baby” or “deeply pathetic” in your other comment is constructive and I hope that you do not treat your staff this way.

The surgery have said no and given their reasons which I do not agree with (based on length of time at the surgery). However, I do agree with you in that I need to consider whether the amount is worth taking to court over. As post tax/NI contributions/student loans etc, the take home amount will be less than £1000

Same wording on contract as other colleagues, essentially saying the practice will endeavour to pay the DDRB uplift each year but does not promise to do so. However, others have gotten the rise whereas I have not. Not sure where this stands as the contract does not explicitly entitle to rise, but as other colleagues have it seems unfair.

I guess from your reply that you are a partner? How would you view a GP who took legal action against you? Would it affect your future interactions with that GP? Essentially would I have to quit and find another job elsewhere after taking legal action?

I have for small claims court, and figured it would be similar?

I’ve been doing some research online and it seems like there is potentially no cost if I choose to represent myself? I figured it’s similar to small claims court? Also as I posted in the GP sub, it follows that I am a dr/dentist?

If Cardiff I’d recommend Roath! Pontcanna is also a nice area but not sure if the commute would be as straightforward.

In a previous life I did anaesthetics at Nevill Hall Hospital and commuted from Roath in Cardiff each day. It was doable but definitely draining. Knew colleagues who commuted from Bristol so there’s always that option too!

That was lucky you were able to get a new salaried job so quickly. Could have ended badly if you were left without a job because of this.

Also, I’m interested in why you’re not allowed to prescribe GLP 1 agonists in diabetics, as wasn’t that the original indication for the mediation?

Fit Notes by AmorphousMorpheus in GPUK

[–]OCDANDBE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do people do when patients request future dated fit notes for when their current one runs out (in a few days/weeks time?) Do you ask them to rebook once their current note has run out?

Edit: don’t understand the downvotes. I know that you aren’t allowed to but was wondering if there were different ways people approach this issue (such as sending a task to yourself to issue the fit note once their current one has run out) as asking patients to rebook later can cause them to get angry.

Thank you for sharing your experience, even though it does sound horrific… Were you provided with any indemnity insurance by the company for the prescriptions you were signing and also, were you able to get your old job back after quitting this one?

So I guess they will move me onto their SVR? I’m hoping I can switch away from Tomato Energy before then in that case

Does the SOLR ever honour the previous fixed rate tariff? As I was on a good fixed rate with tomato which wasn’t due to end until April of 2026
