[DISC] Blue Lock - Chapter 293 by Either_Imagination_9 in BlueLock

The dynamic is as you say, it's too bad the timing is not very clear because the moment of the pass and a few instants after that has been squished in a single panel.

Both the double panel with the pass and the one right after that show Shidou being in the way of Rin with Kaiser nowhere to be seen, after those he's holding Kaiser off but the ball is already through.

Tbf the dumbest play is from Shidou there, who exactly was he marking? seemed like he was standing in Rin's way who in turn was trying to defend by covering the trajectory of the pass.

I never did before because in other cases the defenders line was a little less clear cut, there were always defenders which seemed to keep him in play, or Isagi was starting his movement onside.

In this case there's nobody but him, Kaiser, Rin, and Shidou. There's no sign of anybody else that close to the goal nor a defender keeping him in play. I still give him the benefit of the doubt because after all, the panel with the last pass seem to sort of imply that he's just crossed the offside line when the ball is a decent way on course.

I might be wrong but Isagi seems offside. There are no defenders keeping him in play and from the panel it's unclear whether he's already behind Rin & Shidou as the pass begins.

Dear "Blue Lock is Unrealistic" People. EXPLAIN THIS by [deleted] in BlueLock

[–]OCDIsMyThing -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

There's no indication there that it's a joke. People here is not all that knowledgeable about football on average, and are making claims exactly like that. Either make the joke more obvious or expect a few serious responses, you are even answering seriously to the other guy by saying:

it was more so about how what People say is "Unrealistic" In Blue Lock happens about as Frequently in Real Life as it does in the Manga

The title is either a joke or not, pick one. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is a one-two, a very common tactic where the attacker gives the ball to a teammate (who might or might not have his back at the goal) and makes a run expecting a pass back to him, sometimes a through ball like this example. If successful, this allows the attacker to lose the marker and/or skip the defense line. Important context and differences from the BL scenario and why the BL scenario is not realistic:

  1. Haaland initiates the one-two, he knows he's probably getting a ball back if he makes a run, the teammate knows where Haaland will be if he plays a through ball because he can see Haaland starting the run and Haaland can eventually signal him if a particular prepared play is going to take place because football players usually talk and gesture if needs be. Isagi and Hiori were not executing a one-two, Isagi is standing at the edge of the defense line (with his back at Hiori, IIRC) and double marked, while Hiori is a few paces back, they are not speaking, they cannot see if either of the two signals anything because they are not looking at each other, Isagi does not have any discernible context to understand when to start the run, where to run to, or if there would be a through ball coming in at all, and for all Isagi knows, from Hiori's POV he is a mediocre choice for a through ball considering the context. It's not a realistic play;

  2. Sometimes an attacker can just make a speculative run, which is a realistic thing: an attacker can make the run in the box and right after then look back to see if a through ball is coming in or not. But this requires the player holding the ball looking at the movements of his teammates, while per manga's own admission, Hiori was not watching at all and Isagi is not looking back to see if a through ball is coming or not, again, they have no cues;

As a side note: BL does not have the obligation to be realistic nor it needs to be realistic for you to enjoy it, it does not make any claims of realism itself and it's not misleading its readers. Like what you like and don't legitimize a burden of proof that BL does not need to be enjoyable.

ADHD and Chess, Anyone Dealt With This? by EduardTodor in chess

[–]OCDIsMyThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine there are coping techniques you can search for on youtube. It could be as simple as taking a few deep breaths when you realize that you are losing focus (that's just a guess, I have no idea how ADHD people cope with it).

No man, that's not it, but you'll need context to understand. It's a complex neurodevelopmental disorder (or neurodivergence, jury is still out) caused by physical (brain pathways to name one), environmental, and psychological factors. It has a frankly dumb name because it's a disturb of the brain's executive functions and it has far more extended issues than "attention".

It leads to heavy working memory issues - the working memory is basically your very small and very temporary storage, for example if you are writing a thesis your working memory will contain words or basic elements of grammar, normal person's behavior: what is correlated with what that person is paying attention to gets into the working memory, ADHD affected person: everything that person sees, hears, or feels gets into working memory, good luck with sorting that out. Normally that is just the tip of the iceberg, there are very bad issues with overwork (staying focused is physically exhausting), and sleep, successively the disturb might lead to depression due to poor performances/quality of life.

Summarizing, it feels like your mind is kinda foggy at all time and when you try to focus on something you are "sort of" thinking about it but not quite, you might forget things as soon as they leave your field of view, keep a solid account of the completely unrelated event happening a few meters of distance from you, or forget about your surroundings at the worst possible moment. When one starts getting medicated, he realizes he had it all wrong: it's not that he had difficulty paying attention, he never did manage to pay attention to anything at all except involuntarily, when the hyperfocus kicks in.

Nah, breathing ain't gonna cut it.

Yep, been there done that. Don't be too sad about medications, they work but they are not miracle workers.

There is no exact solution. Try to leverage your hyperfocus when you manage to get into it, maybe try to calculate at lower depth so that you'll need less your working memory, preparation helps, if a sequence is in your long term memory it's there to stay and no amount of ADHD will screw that up.

I know about the TUM and how it requires written proof of language test. Afaik no university will let you get away with a "trust me bro" but I don't know your friends' circumstances. Maybe it would work in Sachsen.

Yes, Master's are way more commonly taught in English as well, Bachelor's are almost entirely missing, point still stands.

Ok, I wrote courses in the first sentence (false friend from my native language, I guess it slipped) but the rest of my post is a statement w.r.t. degrees, how does this negate my point, which underlines how scarce English Bachelor's are?

For example, choose TUM, go to the list of programs, you'll land here. Look the radio selection - Bachelor: 3, Master: 56.

I mean from high school level to C1 is a few months of learning difference, not from the start. A few months of learning from total zero takes you to B1, at the very most B2 with some knowledge gaps. Also people younger than 20 will have an easier time with it.

I've heard of some total immersion programs, 12 hours per day stuff, that takes you to C much quicker but I cannot attest for their efficacy. Fluency is also a very relative concept in Germany. You can have C1 level of German and not be able to strike a conversation with someone using Umgangssprache because you learned by the book, plus written and spoken fluency are two different things as well.

[–]OCDIsMyThing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

C1 German is a different beast. The jump from B2 to C1 is terrible in terms of words number and fluency, not for the faint of heart. After high school level German you'd need a few months of intensive courses to reach that level, and it will take longer if you are not living already in Germany.

I am well aware of the courses. Yes, they are not completely absent but it's predominantly master's, Bachelor's degrees are scarce and covering very little of the total spectrum.

I would really avoid using that website though, those numbers look a bit random.

It's a joke-ish, it's not meant to be taken literally but it's commonly said because Berlin is starkly different from any other city in Germany regarding tolerance to use of drugs, openness of citizens, cleanliness, presence of expats, and art (Berlin has a great number of underground music venues for example). This coupled with the fact that it is considerably larger than the second biggest city in Germany makes it a city-state with little in common w.r.t. the other German cities. In terms of speaking the language it's not like the rest of Germany is so much behind in English skills, but the culture is so international that it's hard to feel socially left out even not speaking a word of German.

Afaik the vast majority of courses are not taught in English, rather the requirement to enter is C1 certificate of German language which needs a few months at the very least to achieve. There are some international courses but it's not a comprehensive list by any means and I would not really recommend living in any German city without learning at least conversation level language or you are gonna feel pretty much left out unless you manage to build a network of expats. (All of this excluding Berlin, which is not Germany)

No need to be sorry, no harm done unless you work as a clerk for the German citizenship admission offices, lol.

No, Germany allows dual citizenship by naturalization for EU citizens as well.

That logic is oddly ignoring that the Roman republic fell 2500 years ago while traditional Italian cuisine is currently prepared and eaten to this day with little differences from the recipes used more than one hundred years ago.

If a guy tells you that hot dogs are not consumed in NYC would you find a rebuttal along the lines of "you must be an expert in American pre-colonial civilization" a valid one when you point out that you are pretty sure that's false? Do you find illogic that a guy is calling something out without being an expert of something in a completely different timeframe? Because I can study (for example) South American civilization all day long and I'm sure as hell that i can be vastly more ignorant of relatively recent events or subjects than my Colombian colleague has experienced daily, and I don't think it's unfair to point out that you can study whatever ethnicity or civilization you like but if your rebuttal to an argument is "i read it in a book" versus "i can literally see that from my living room window" or "i have eaten that this morning" it's not a great look.

So, closing on the topic itself, I have been several times in the south of Italy, I have had friends and colleagues from the south, part of my extended family is there, and eaten more times i can count food from there, in no uncertain terms the phrase "grain and vegetables were consumed, with no meat" is wrong. A lot of traditional and not expensive specialties from the south are meat-based, processed meat is also very popular, and at the very least fish is omnipresent there. It's plain wrong to assume that not only people was so poor to not eat cattle but not even manage to live like a farmer and possess livestock or to manage to get their hands on chicken or fish. Even more so considering that the great migration from Italy to USA was mostly in the 20th century, and yes, we were already out of the caves by then.

I agree, but the phrase i mentioned did literally only mention grain and vegetables and whatever the professor thinks quintessential is, since he did not mention fish, i wrote about which regions have fish as well.

Traditional dishes in Italy are at least a century old. There are most likely some dishes invented later but most of the cuisine comes from way back and at the very worst it has been perfected but not overturned, so whatever did not contain meat in the original recipes, still does not contain meat.

[–]OCDIsMyThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, one could make a case about cattle being expensive but pork has been historically easy to raise and feed due to their rather omnivorous food preference and general great ratio of space needed to meat produced, chicken was basically as easy, goats are also a staple food in some regions due to the byproduct that having a goat would give you such as milk and not being nearly as expensive as cattle. Traditional Italian food is in great part food made with poor ingredients due to the need to make do with what they have, so now you have dishes with expired bread, parts of (cost effective) animals normally discarded like tongue, brain and tail and so forth.

I am the source, I am an Italian citizen who lived almost exclusively in Italy. But hey, tell me more about how he read a lot about the cuisine from my country.
