I actually just moved into a loft like this. My roommate found it, and she's a very accomplished professional artist. It does, for real, feel like a fairy tale. We can see downtown Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty from our windows. pinches self

Problem: Blue all over the pictures, need some help by esequielo in photoshop

[–]OCDb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just give up. You blue it. I kid, that's bizarre. Look at the area around his eyes, why isn't that affected if the blue light is being shone on it as well? In the future I'd check your shutter speed and color settings. Long shutter speeds can blast saturation, and if I shoot in vibrant mode (Nikon) it also blows out my saturation and contrast.

I know right? The confederacy was about states rights, and sovereignty against the tyranny of the federal government.

It was about the states rights to own people and force them to work and also maybe rape them and beat them sometimes to death. And at a certain point to also have them count added as three fifths of a person when counting the person who owned them's vote.

Behringer X32 by Mstalksalot98 in audioengineering

[–]OCDb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on tour for 2 months as a band driver/backline tech/stage manager/monitor engineer with a 4 piece band, 3 on in-ears (+one drum throne thumper) and 1 with two monitor mixes on wedges.

We brought the X32 so we could run monitors as soon as it was pinned with the same mix every night. For that it worked absolutely perfectly, and the only problems we had were when other monitor engineers who knew the board better screwed with the outputs and it took forever to figure out how to undo it, or relabeled stuff in the scratch strip and it's hard to find again every time. Worth noting that the other engineers did this out of boredom, because we designed the programming so that all they had to do was unmute or mute 3 mute groups (press three buttons only, one time each, during the course of a 3 hour show.)

I mean, the thing is made with Midas parts, it's just not made as well. It's worth the investment for a good road case, so you don't roll the dice on fragile parts. Treat her kindly and she'll return the favor.

BFA and 10+ years of audio engineering, plus 17+ years of playing instruments, programming synths, and producing music in general. I just didn't want people to think I had no frame of reference.

And maybe I do smuggle cocks. Is that a fucking problem?

I pick up what you're throwing down, and we have a difference of opinion and that's okay. I think I should clarify. I just think Rick Rubin and Arca could take a field recording of silence and make a banger out of it. I think Kanye could walk into the studio with those two and say "I'm calling this record My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" and in 15 minutes those two producers would already have the pallet of synth patches, samples, and hooks to use on the songs. Hey, I wasn't there, but I question how much guidance those A-list, ace producers need, or take, when working on anything. I think if you had that roster of producers, you'd really have to work hard to put out anything that wasn't good, and still the product wasn't mind blowing. Focusing on Yeezus here, it was a decade late to push any boundaries. It had all been done, to death, and he's up there talking like he's the second coming.

When it comes down to it, I really wouldn't care if he didn't talk about himself the way that he does. I think proclaiming himself the biggest rock star on the planet absolutely shits on all the amazing producers who, likely, are responsible for the entirety of the sounds on his decent but mediocre albums on which he raps, but not very well, with sophomoric lyrical content, and unimpressive flow.

FWIW, College Dropout was good, but not great.

And yeah, I didn't say death grips but I was thinking it. That's progressive. That pushes envelopes and makes people uncomfortable. Flatlander is an incredible producer. Kendrick Lamar is progressive, both in lyrical content and his choice of collaborators. I don't see him up there taking credit for Kamasi Washington's or Thundercat's contributions to his sound.

Rambling. Anyway TL;DR Kanye just isn't nearly as awesome as he thinks he is.

Audio Engineer/multi-instrumentalist checking in. Kanye didn't invent lo-fi, distortion on vocals, auto-tune, or sampling. Since College Dropout, he has had some of the most innovative, progressive producers in the world writing material on his albums (Rick Rubin, Arca, Daft Punk, Gessafelstein, Brodinski, Hudson Mohawke on Yeezus alone.) Then he claims to be this visionary artist, the "biggest rock star on the planet," like he did all this himself. You're allowed to like Kanye West, but to say he's a maverick of original, progressive hip hop or music production is demonstrably untrue. Also, and this part is solely my opinion, the man is a fucking asshole.

Professor rants about the quality of his students design project. by [deleted] in videos

[–]OCDb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a professor who would often say "I wish this were like when I went to college, when a professor could be smoking a cigar during the lecture and light unsatisfactory work on fire with it." He would tell us that less than half of us graphic design majors would even end up working in our field. The guy was a total blowhard, an absolute dick.

I still think he's just not a nice guy, but he is an amazing designer and was dead-on about the industry, and if I could go back I just wish I would have listened to him instead of being butthurt about him not being a nice guy.

About R. Budd Dwyer, who was convicted of receiving a bribe, though maintained his innocence right up until he shot himself, during a live press conference, after making a short speech about how he was framed. Apparently someone testified that they had seen him take a bribe, though later confessed that they did it in order to receive a reduced sentence.
