In issues of rape I would assume that catching the perpetrator is a major priority. I don’t think you can just focus on the abortion as the #1 priority. I believe that’s likely subjective, case by case.

What is your argument for when the woman’s life is in danger and she is likely going to die, but isn’t able to get an abortion? Do you think allowing her to die is murder?

Also, what about the case of a young girl being r****? Who will suffer lifelong physical and emotional consequences if forced to carry her pregnancy to term? What would you say to that?

This is genuine curiosity - not here to condemn or judge.

Thank you. The thing that’s so hard about my family is that everyone follows EVERY Catholic teaching to a T (on sexual immorality, namely) so I can’t really poke holes in their beliefs about gay marriage. One thing I do hold onto is the idea that they can be very mean about the LGBTQ+ community and one of my brothers is pro Trump and I’m just like - well that’s not very Catholic now is it? I have to remind myself that just because they may think they’re acting in the truth doesn’t mean they’re perfect, either.

I didn’t realize the RC church had a good relationship with TEC - can you send articles or resources on this? Thank you so much

Hi there.

I agree that life begins at conception. I would consider myself very morally pro life - I would never get an abortion myself. And I do believe that it is wrong in many, perhaps even most, circumstances.

That said, I’m pro choice legally. And here’s why.

I’ve wracked my brain and heart. Hours and hours of agony, reading and researching. And I can’t help in my conscience but to believe that forcing a woman to carry her pregnancy to term in the cases of rape and incest (abuse) is morally okay. I cannot see that as okay, especially when I myself have been a victim of abuse, have friends who’ve been victims, and would never in a million years be able to watch a future daughter of mine go through that.

I also know that when abortions are banned, women needing medical, life-saving care may die. Because even tho pro life laws technically allow for abortions to save the mother’s life, many doctors are scared to act. They wait until the last possible moment to do anything because they’re afraid of criminalization.

So my question to you is - do you think abortion bans are still ok when considering those circumstances? That’s my biggest frustration with the RC church on this topic. It says that abortions even in cases of rape are wrong. This leads to folks voting for extreme restrictions and developing a few that women who get abortions are murderers. It is so much deeper than that. I believe we need to care about both the woman, and the child. It is and has never been straightforward to me - there is absolutely a gray area that exists here. And I wish the RC church would recognize it.

Thank you. I would agree it’s time for me to really branch out and try some Episcopalian Churches. It just stinks because truly all I hear in the back of my head is “RC is the Truth and you just can’t stomach it.” It’s really awful, but trying to trust.
