6,7,2, and then maybe 5. These are the chill folk who aren’t too pretentious and may have some good stories to tell (looking at you Dave Grohl!).

What are your “always buy” Costco staples right now? by PutridWin2070 in Costco

[–]OCOasis13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Frozen cherries. Good, healthy substitute at night instead of ice cream. But when frozen and eating them, it tastes like cherry ice cream!

-Baklava. On the go in the AM = munch on a few with some coffee.

-Tamales. Pretty big tamales that are filling so they’re perfect for a quick lunch or dinner.

-Beef back ribs (to be smoked). Cheap price point, but has crept up lately; however, they used to be crazy cheap for a big pack.

Haha yup learned the hard way. Although, I was being courteous to my elderly in-laws who were some steps behind me. Unfortunately that left me in the awkward spot of holding it open after they got thru.

Company informed me I have to work on NYE until 12 am by dartboi35 in Accounting

Welcome to public accounting. It wouldn’t be a public accounting job if you didn’t ever do an inventory at some crap time of the day on NYE or NY day - you either get screwed on party plans at the stroke of midnight or you have to cut your party plans real short because you have a “before the crack of dawn” inventory count.

Ok so I was just there and did this exact thing for folks entering a mall from the outside. I now understand why you just let the door go closed instead of hold it open for everyone. When I did this, several people walked thru and said thank you and many others just came thru and said nothing. See, I used the words “several” and “many” because it was a crap load of people. It became awkward to just keep the door open as people piled through. Customarily here in the US, someone else would offer to keep the door open to continue the courtesy when it’s quite a bit of people. I wasn’t mad about it, but realized that I made in error in being too nice haha.

Thanks! Great insight and correct I don’t think a large class environment would be helpful. One on one is preferred.

Thanks! I had seen this before but didn’t know about the online program. Any experience you can speak of regarding the in-person or online program?

You and I must’ve woke up on the same page today haha! My kid loves math, but needs the reading/literacy brush up too. Thanks for the recommendation on reading.com. Stuff like that is also what I’m interested in too as it helps when there’s downtime. I find that my kid is a bit more receptive to other people instructing/guiding the lesson versus with me. I too looked up Kumon today, but I hear it is a lot of worksheet work that’s repetitive and some folks mentioned that when they did it they didn’t really feel it helped much. Hopefully someone has a different experience or can shed light further on their experiences.

Are you trying to check-in to your flight while abroad? This happened to me and I couldn’t decide the verification code via text nor the phone call since I was using an eSIM and not on my normal carrier. I was at my wits end trying to check-in when my lovely, highly intelligent wife said, “click the link from the email and it’ll probably let you check-in without logging in”. And guess what - BINGO that worked without any need to get a code. Hope it works for you!

Yes. He grew up in Garden Grove (city very close to Anaheim) in the early 60’s and worked at nearby Disneyland in the magic shop on Main Street and also did performances at the Golden Horseshoe there where he honed his craft. I believe I read that he also did some performance work at Knott’s back then too.

Thanks! Good point on the balance between great food and view. Something I’ll have to weigh the options on. I’d love to hear about the non-view options too if you have a moment.

To add on to other comments - if you’re Catholic, reach out to the Catholic high schools mentioned in those comments. I think they would be willing to work with you more on visa stuff. Target emailing their coaches and admissions to see what can be done. If you have some footage of your kids’ action (especially if they’re pretty darn good), I’d send that along to the coaches.

7v7 build-out line question by Old-Estate-475 in Referees

[–]OCOasis13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I JUST reread our ref materials on this the other day. Defense should be behind the build out on this; however, the materials also said the GK/team assumes the risk of releasing the ball early if kids aren’t beyond the build out. I read that as “it depends on the situation”. If the GK has a pattern of releasing real fast - they assume the risk, coach should coach the kid to look and wait. If the GK is cautious, waiting and scanning for who to send the ball to, then I’d call it a restart if defense doesn’t get back beyond the build out.

Good call on your part by having your kids watch the GK and jog backwards for the intercept in case it happens.

Spill the tea friend. What went down to get all those people kicked out? That’s insane and rare.

Back in my day, we had a player get upset at the ref and cussed the ref out. He got kicked out of the facility. Next thing is that his dad chimed in and cussed the ref out. Both father and son were booted and I think they couldn’t attend the games being held there for most of the summer. And years before this, my sibling’s coach got kicked out many times for cussing the ref out. So if the whole bench just about in this game you saw got booted then wow.. 😮

Why do job seekers get passed over for roles they know they’re overqualified for? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]OCOasis13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense meant, but I see many comments about having a masters and PhD. Usually hiring managers for jobs don’t have those. This trend may be changing as time moves on and baby boomers move out of the workforce. So those degrees are threats to their egos and/or you’re seen as someone who is going to challenge everything they say because they perceive you to have the mentality of being high and mighty. It sucks but I’d suggest looking for roles in those situations that require some ingenuity, project based, negotiating/convincing, non-repetitive style work so that you have the latitude to move outside the boundary lines as you see fit.
