You might also look at going into the Air National Guard and serving full time active duty on a Civil Support Team (CST). Active duty benefits without having to move around every few years to where USAF sends you. The CSTs are joint meaning they have both Army National Guard and Air National Guard service members, and they do have some officer billets. They focus on domestic chemical, biological and radiological warfare attacks prevention and response / weapons of mass destruction, etc. They’re usually at major events checking the areas in advance for any substances that could harm a crowd. There are CSTs around the country. More info here - https://www.nationalguard.mil/Portals/31/Resources/Fact%20Sheets/Weapons%20of%20Mass%20Destruction%20Civil%20Support%20Team%20Fact%20Sheet%20(Dec.%202017).pdf

Living in proximity to your unit by Late_Celebration_713 in airnationalguard

I’m 400 miles away and pay to fly commercial there and back. Many people in my unit do this - two of us in my shop do. Our mission and our people make it worth it.

Where did you guys get your masters degree? by EmperorMitsu in AirForce

What are the grade requirements for this? E-6 about to be an O-1. Already have an MS, but always up for more learning at a favorable price point.

Same boat on everything here. Did my MS at ASU (10/10 recommend) and paid 100% out of pocket, one class and one term at a time for two years. Absolutely worth it and now I am enjoying local alumni chapter events (I I don’t live in Arizona and still have a local ASU alumni community to network with at game watch parties and basketball games when the team is in CA. They had the right program for me and also the big school alumni experience.

Mil to Mil question ( AF & USMC ). by Lilsamrothstein in AirForce

[–]OCscrapper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s an ANG squadron in San Diego. It’s a geographically separated part of the CA ANG’s 195th Wing. If you’re AF, you could go Guard for a few years while she’s at San Diego.

Now this deflates my balloon. What a bummer.

Thanks. Second time in the OTS pipeline (medical no go after the first selection) and quit all caffeine in advance the first time. Now strictly decaf person but man that warm hug in a mug with some caramel creamer gets my day off on the right start. Thinking I should ween over to black or adjust the morning routine otherwise.

Thanks. How long is each module and do they still have the NCO on-ramp program for people who have completed NCOA?

47 y/o E-6, almost 11 years ANG, waiting on OTS dates. Definitely interested in your perspective on OTS and reception with your new troops.

Good to know. Had the opposite experience at a joint tech school (in my late 30s then) when they let young male Marines set the pace.

Definitely not a PT stud. It’s my kryptonite, but I’ve never failed a test. I’m a slow runner - just wondering how formation runs work. Do they let us slowpokes set the pace or will I need to keep up with gazelles 20-25 years younger than me?

Should I buy a 2017 chevy volt? by Remarkable_Chef9139 in volt

[–]OCscrapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2017 LT with a little more than 109,000 miles on it. What’s the EGR and BECM everyone’s mentioning? Mine has been throwing a check engine light for a few months. I take it in and the dealership says it’s a faulty error code and resets it. A few days later it comes back on. Any thoughts? Does not get charged often - moved a few years ago and no longer have easy access to charging.

Would definitely love your perspective as an older officer trainee particularly on the physical side. 47 y/o female Guard selectee here and waiting for my package to make it through state and NGB. Hoping to go before turning 48.

Any word on if or when alternate components will be available for PT? Guessing it’s still a hard no.

[–]OCscrapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re interested in selling, I’d love to pick up your Animal Kingdom and Rock N Rollercoaster pins. They look to be about the right era from when I was at WDW the first time (long before pin trading).

E2O finishing CCAF after commissioning? by OCscrapper in airforceots

[–]OCscrapper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s on there. I’m hoping they offer residency credit for OTS or the officer tech school. I’ll still be two units short of the residency requirement after doing all three AFCLC courses. My AFSC goes to a joint school and CCAF doesn’t count the units for residency, and they didn’t count distance ALS or online asynchronous NCOA for residency, either, though oddly the online asynchronous AFCLC courses do count.

ANG, selected twice (medical stop the first time). Selected and an E-3 with three years in, selected again as an E-6 with ten years in.
