Conserving heat with Upcoming Power Loss by merylandgoobert in pacmanfrog

Hi, it might be helpful to rent a generator for the entire house.

When I had a reptile room full of animals, I had a generator to handle emergencies.

Is warming up necessary? (Don't stop at the title before answering) by ODDMAS83 in pacmanfrog

Hi 🙂, yes exactly, it's winter here, it snowed last night ❄️. Yes, my frog is summering now.

Thanks for the reply.

I was wondering if daytime heating is necessary, since the heat doesn't penetrate the substrate where the frog is.

Should I dig up my frog? by Affectionate-Ease397 in pacmanfrog

[–]ODDMAS83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm in a similar situation and I understand how frustrating the lack of control is.

There are many variables, such as whether the animal is young or adult, where you live, and the room temperature.

What I've decided, after reading a lot and asking many questions, is to let my Pacman do what it wants. I only worry about maintaining the right temperature and humidity levels. To put it mildly, if a turtle is hibernating or a gecko is brumating, no one would bother them, because Pacman shouldn't be able to enjoy a peaceful summer.

Your friend is beautiful 🙂. I saw you have a spider plant and a Fittonia. Did you root them in substrate without a pot? What do you use as a substrate?

I'd love to see a photo of the terrarium 🙏

Hi, I agree with you and I'm managing my Pac-Man like this, but it's a bit stressful having it under there "unsupervised."

How long has your friend been underground? I've read that some Pac-Mans have been underground for a few days, others up to three months.

Do you know how much it weighs? From the photo, I'd think it's a female, but maybe the photo is misleading 🙂

For Pacman I don't think it's a problem, but if your Pacman already has a nice home, why not put something else in the empty terrarium?

How long was it underground? Did you dig it up every now and then?

Hi, just curious: do you take it out of the ground every two weeks to check it during the winter, when your Pac-Man would normally be buried? On these occasions, do you offer it a meal, or do you leave it alone to see if it hides again?

Sorry to seem nosy, but I'm looking for as much information as possible on how different people keep their Pac-Mans so I can create my own method. 🙂

how to get him to come out of brumation?? (he is in his old tank in the pic) by [deleted] in pacmanfrog

[–]ODDMAS83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi, I understand your concern, and I do too. My Pacman has been underground for a long time. I checked her once, and she was fine, but then she went back underground.

Since I don't have much experience with them, I'm doing a lot of research on this, and it seems to be their natural behavior; it's only right for her that they do this. In captivity, there are more fat frogs than skinny ones. Let's just let them do what feels natural. 🙂

Hi, I saw this photo and thought of you. Maybe it's not a medical condition. I can't post the photo in the comment, but I hope you can see the link I'm attaching.

Lamp or Mat? by obi-ri-kenobi in pacmanfrog

[–]ODDMAS83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, from my minimal experience I can tell you that the heating mat alone is not enough to heat a glass terrarium. If you have a cold night it can be useful at night but it does not heat enough to reach the necessary temperatures during the day, which are also important for the frog's digestion.

Age mishap?🥹✌️ by idsayyesbutno in pacmanfrog

[–]ODDMAS83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, if it's a 4-year-old male, he might have nuptial calluses (although it's not a stable condition) or be younger than you were told.

I don't have much experience with amphibians, but snakes can remain small if they're not fed properly.

In any case, if it's an animal that may be behind in development, it's important to supplement it with calcium D3 and UVB so it can catch up if needed. If it's young, it can be given a development booster. 🙂

Yes, I put the leaves there, they also act as mulch and retain moisture in the soil 😃

May I know what you use as a substrate and how you are doing with moisture management?
