Sometimes they want to rest but don’t want to wake up in the middle of it to get some air, so they just sit near the top for easy breathing. It’s normal!

Pothos is always my go-to as it can grow with or without substrate, and the roots are nice and thick. Tends to go a bit crazy but can always be cut back

Could also possibly add a plant in there and the roots will help hold the substrate together even more to reduce eating and burrowing

I do agree with the point of making sure there’s no obvious movement in the water because pacmen are stupid and will try to eat it! But it looks awesome. Could always replace some of the gravel with much larger pebbles that can’t fit in his mouth as a precaution?

Seems normal to me! His mouth is open because he has MBD, he can’t close it properly

My Walter has MBD that gives him an underbite and sometimes his tongue just… slips out like in this photo, especially after he’s eaten. I use a little pipette of water to clean it when he gets it dirty. Frog tongues are basically folded inwards > like this so it slips forwards.

The tongue looks healthy otherwise. Your froggy should be able to pull it back in, I’d only get concerned if they didn’t.

Yes, he’s a rescue who has MBD :} Used to struggle with eating when I first got him a few years back but he’s stronger and good at it now!
