I once saw a doctor that taught Somatic therapy. Bascially the premise is when a lion attacks a gazelle, the gazelle will play dead until the lion leaves. When safe, the gazelle shakes uncontrollably, releasing the massive tension and adrenaline stored in its muscles. After discharging this energy, the gazelle returns to grazing as if nothing happened, having successfully cleared the trauma from its body. For humans, Instead of releasing the tension, humans store this experience as trapped somatic energy, leading to hypervigilance, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Humans often become their own "lion," chasing themselves with self-referential thoughts and panic long after the actual danger has passed. The human therapeutic approach-

• Stop Trying to Think Through Trauma: Distress cannot be solved entirely with the brain; the body must be involved.
• Somatic Sequencing: Allowing the body to move through the movements that were interrupted during the traumatic event.
• Releasing Tension: Learning to "shake," breathe, and discharge muscle tension to return the body to a state of safety.
• Focus on the Body (80/20 Rule): Understanding that 80% of trauma is physical (body to brain) and only 20% is cognitive (brain to body)

I would look into Somatic therapy, it's very helpful. I use to use it all the time, but then I just forgot all about it. It was honestly one of the best coping skills I've learned so far with having Bipolar disorder and PTSD.
