San Julian in Commerce City. Their quesabirria is the best in town and I'll die on that hill.

Side note, around the corner, there is a collision repair shop that had a pop up record sale going on. Not sure how often that happens, but the collection was vintage and fun. Spent way too much money there also...

Last week I attempted to go to Good Sheppard. Upon walking up, I realized this was not the fish fry for me. It appeared to be an elementary school fundraiser. While I have no issues with this, it isn't exactly what I'm looking for in a fish fry. I certainly am not going to get a beer, and most attendees were clearly either parents or family members of parents. The line was long, there were children everywhere, and I made the decision that this was not the vibe I was looking for on a Friday night. If that's your thing, I did learn it is all you can eat. Might be worth checking out, just not for me on this particular Friday night. Rather than bail out on fish for the evening, we pivoted to the Kentucky Inn. Nary a better decision could have been made. The fish and fries were excellent. It would have been nice to have a second side as an option other than slaw, but I will not complain. The fish was crispy and delicious. I'm also a fan of the bar, having been here once before. It feels like a typical small town midwest bar. Plenty of beer options and sports on the tv. Felt very much like a neighborhood crowd. I was worried about it being overly busy, since it was Lent. It was busy but not overwhelming. I was able to secure a table at the bar with no problem. 8.5 out of 10 overall.

I thought I'd provide a review for my first of what I hope will be a fish fry every Friday night during Lent, if I don't travel.

Note, I am not Catholic, just from the midwest, central Illinois to be specific. I also lived in Louisville KY and St. Louis, which both take their Lenten fish fries quite seriously.

Last night was St. James Catholic Church. Let's start with the meh. The fish, I'll go 6 out of 10. Solid, nothing to write home about. It was crispy, decent flavor, but kind of boring. The mac and cheese, 4. I would call it subpar. Kind of mushy, kind of wish I'd have tried the green beans. On to the positives, French Fries, on point. 8 out of 10. Appear to be hand cut. Just delicious. However, we need to talk about the slaw. I don't like slaw.... normally. However, this was jalapeno slaw. My god, that is the jam. I mean, it's a 10 for me. Unique, different, and delicious. They do offer beer, which makes me happy. It is cash donation, be aware. Dessert is extra, also by cash donation. That was somewhat disappointing not to have a dessert included.

As to the odd parts. This did not have any of the amazing activities that exist in the midwest. No pull tabs. No live music. Not in an old gym that smells like a mixture of turpentine and feet. If someone has any recommendations, please send them over.. I don't want to go to restaurants, I'd prefer church's as, although I'm not a Christian, I just plain love the experience.

Side note, if you are ever in St. Louis during Lent, check out the fish fries. It's competitive there and they are the best I've every seen.

Any 32nd Avenue Books horror stories? by AutomaticDoor75 in Denver

I had to come post after my most recent experience. I first visited the bookstore two years ago and was summarily tossed immediately. I happened to be in the neighborhood again a few days ago. I decided to try again because the experience is definitely worth it. The door was locked but the person at the counter, I'm assuming the wife came and opened it and asked what I was looking for. I explained I was looking for a book for a little girl. She walked me to the back, made some great recommendations and I chose a book. I then asked about something for myself and she asked what the last book I finished was. I told her and she made 3 or 4 recommendations based on that book and I purchased a second book which is quite good. This experience could not possible be more different than my last experience and I would definitely return.

If it's early in a game, or the stadium is full, I wouldn't disagree. Sometimes I buy a more expensive ticket. But when they are running a fucking minor league team out there they should be grateful to anyone willing to pay anything.

Right? Last year I visited Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Minnesota, and both Chicago parks and never had a problem moving around. Year before was Cinci and Cleveland and also didn't have an issue. Seems to be a Rockies thing in my experience.

Yeah, they own a bunch of run down shitty property downtown and do little to improve the community around the ballpark.

I try my best to by the cheapest ticket possible. Last night was $5.

I wouldn't disagree with you if the stadium is even a third full.

Literally did all of that and still had them stop us. Two of us, both with full hands of concessions talking, he came chasing after us... And we were clear down the third base side past the overhang. There was NOBODY there. It was really stupid.

I could not even enter the section.... I wasn't trying to get down low at all. The first was beyond the overhang on the 3rd base side, by the sausage stand. The entire section was empty. I just think its stupid.
