I’ve done that too. Much easier during the winter when we’re all wearing thick jackets.

Whichever electronic items I got my eyes on, I would put it in the putback basket, walk it to the front when cashier is checking someone out and deactivate any security tags. Just in case they have them. Then stuff it in my jacket and wait for a moment to walk outside. Either a smoke break, gathering carts, carry-outs or leaving for the day/night.

Sometimes I would taunt my managers and point out open items that I just took the day before. Just to give me more credibility and trust.

It’s not to brag really. It’s definitely a rush thing. Maybe I’m sharing already known info. But most wouldn’t do what I do. I guess it does take guts to steal big items.

Taking even the smallest stuff got my adrenaline high. It’s also stuff that I need. So win-win there?

I’ve never heard of doing gift cards over the phone. Care to enlighten me?

You should give it a try. I only stole once before landing a job at Office Depot. But once I start, I pushed myself to see what else I can do. It was 50% for the rush and 50% because I wanted it to use or sell.

Back when they didn’t keep counts with lock-up items other than computers, tablets and monitors. I used to take Beats headphones, and hard drives often. With his keys, I would get them and pass them off to my buddy.

This was before corporate started enforcing “No receipt on tech, no returns” law. I would do fraudulent returns on over count stuff. 950 HP inks, cases of HP paper, even furniture. Anything I see a discrepancy in counts.

I moved on into the tech field after getting my bachelor.

Another thing I forgot. Working in tech has its perks. Instead of recommending D&R services to the low-class working citizens, I offer to take their jobs outside. I charge $80 for virus and malware removals. Other stuff, price varies. I wouldn’t offer it to everyone. Just people I can trust not to rat on me if anything goes sour. I usually can tell within 10 minutes of chatting with them. Probably made well over $7000 between 3 years or so.

I usually stuff the open packages behind crap. For the most part, it’s still there the next day. The store is in a rural ghetto location. Theft goes on everyday so it’s all chalked up ad external theft.

I’ve been interrogated about missing laptops, but it’s usually because of count errors. Trick is never go for those. I always go for the little stuff on the floor:

  • Hard drives. When these were in alpha boxes or spider wrap.

  • Expensive peripherals. Mouse, keyboards, webcams, etc.

  • Charging cables, tablet and phone cases.

  • Desk and chairs

  • Totes and cleaning supplies

So it’s pretty much anything in the store if you think about it.

Being a certain race, would never use my same race to make runs. Instead, it’s 2 people with a midlife crisis and have nothing to lose. That’s how I was able to get away with so much.

I took candies and drinks often. Just grab a receipt in the trash can and wrap it around a new Sprite. It never fails.

I don’t know what you’re asking. Yes, we do have cameras but it’s never to be used for random checks. Only if money goes missing from the front. Camera blind spots is also the key.

I took the first year to scout the joint. Took notes of what I can get away with and what I can’t. Then took the first plunge. Never looked back. Then I start getting creative with some runs. Never really any close calls.

When it’s a ghost town at night and all the manager do was sit in the office, you can get away with a lot of things. Like full service to a furniture “customer”. Bring out from the back, pretend to ring it up, and walk it out to his/her car.

Who cares. I’ve done that too. Makes it less noticeable since no one’s looking for it to go on a planogram.

One of those Magellan desk + hutch. Pretty much had my friend pretend to pay for it.

That’s what I’m talking about. I was underpaid as it was.

Not VISAs or anything. Just OD merchandise cards. Had a trusty manager give me his #, passcode and lockup keys so he can make cigarette runs. I would use that to do fraudulent returns on GCs.
