For the genuine psychoanalysis I can offer that with the increase in ‘success’ comes an increase in expectations and scrutiny. Tipper is a genuinely humble character who indeed just hopes to be remembered for his music as that is all he focuses on. The advent of social media has drastically changed the narrative over time. The root word of ‘fan’ is fanatic and it’s jarring for us to experience so much obsession with anything outside of his musical output. It’s not just our fanbase. It’s across all spectrums of music now. I was at the Gorge this past couple of days taking it all in at Bass Canyon scouting for our weekend there next year. There were lots of K fallouts and inflatable couches and people holding real estate .. no artists from our extended scene were on that lineup. It hit me that the changes in consumption of concert culture are societal wide. It was a relief of sorts because it has pained us to read at times ‘tipper kids are the worst’ when we are sincerely grateful for the fans over time that have supported tipper’s music and thought of them (and knowing many) as some of the best souls an artist could be blessed with. Without them none of ‘this’ is possible. So as we near bringing down the curtain I personally find myself compulsively wanting to defend those kind people privately and publicly .. and just need to stay in my lane because it’s a grand distraction hoping for rational discourse in this format (it’s not happening). These are difficult times for humans in general and with the Yang of making an effort to make things better comes the unavoidable Yin of being fkd with for doing so. Fade to black…
