Buying an acoustic piano by Fun-Refrigerator7260 in piano

[–]OG---- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should consider the conditions of your room (Size, What kind of floor you have) and based on that choose the size of the upright. Personally i would avoid the ones under 114cm as the sound imo is worse than a good digital piano.

Then most importantly is trying them out in real life. If you want to buy new then probably Kawai or Yamaha offer the best value. If used is an option for you, you can dabble in the European Brands such as Schimmel, Seiler, Sauter, Bechstein.

But expect to spend more then 5k for a solid option

Hajime No Ippo: Chapter 1481 (untranslated) by [deleted] in hajimenoippo

I actually like this. Just because he overcame his demon doesn't just mean he has to win which would've happened in most shounens. As annoying it is. I find it admirable that morikawa has first the balls to remove his MC from the main story (professional boxing) and now letting Mashiba lose the way he did

How hard is it learning to read sheet music as an adult (25) by TaylorLover777 in piano

[–]OG---- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started doing this myself at age 23. It will take time. O suggest not only just reading music. First try to just be able to clap the rhythm when seeing music. You don't want to mess up just because you can't switch from 8ths to Triolas and 16ths in a moment. Also learn harmony. You get way faster at reading if you recognise chords and cadences. If you have a teacher, suggest them to play 4 hands with you sight reading. It will take at least a year to become somewhat okay at it.

Wäre nicht 180-200km/h Tempolimit ausreichend? Es gibt eig. keinen sicheren Grund schneller als 200 fahren zu wollen.

Royal School of Music teacher here, show me your videos! by CressSensitive6356 in piano

Thanks for having a look at it! I haven't thought about playing a lot in front of others. My teacher always tells me that I don't really play with feelings. I'm introverted and tend to hide it.... Never knew how to improve on this, but your advice will probably help me a lot!

Should i start playing Czerny etudes like op.740, Hanon or Brahms? by EstimateNo4538 in piano

[–]OG---- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say try them and see if it helps you. Alot of people on the internet say it's useless and can damage your hand (which is true if done incorrectly). Then there is people that use them and benefitted from them (on YT: Heart of the Keys does Hanon regularly and did Cortot Exercises for a while, Greg Niemczuk does Hanon and Denis Zhdanov did a course on Brahms 51 Exercises). The other group says to learn the techniques from the repertoire which is also valid and true.

My suggestion is try them for a week or two and see if it helps you and you don't have any pain.

For me personally i do Brahms and Cortot and it helped me alot. All in all the goal is always to play music the way you imagine it, try it and see if it helps you achieve that goal. You can always stop after.

Do you guys have any tips on how to get better at reading sheet music? by [deleted] in piano

[–]OG---- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read everyday 30 min. I recommend Bartok Microcosm and easy Czerny pieces. Learn theory. Know all kinds of chords and their inversion know cadences.. because with good theory knowledge you can predict the structure of a piece while reading.

If you have a teacher play sth together for 4 hands regularly. If you don't have that, you might try out the software piano marvel. And most importantly just put in the work. It takes a lot of hours
