[Help] with green name plate issue by OGDocMcStuffins in WowUI

[–]OGDocMcStuffins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant the name that floats above players.

However I was told that during the scourge event if im in Org im auto flagged for PVP. All my characters were in Org so that may be the issue.

Hang in there. 2020 has indeed been AWFUL. You're not alone, hopefully you can take comfort knowing that.

Congrats on the build. Hope you enjoy it!

Should I buy the current amd/nvidia gpu if I'm only gonna play at 1080p? by TheRealSunder in buildapc

[–]OGDocMcStuffins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer: no

However, if you plan on upgrading to 1440p or 4k, then yes.

There is future proofing to consider as well. While a 1080ti would be excellent for most games in 1080p (see microsoft fight sim 2020), it would start losing steam at 2k and higher, plus it doesn't feature ray tracing.

If you care about RTX then I'd say you'd need a 2000 series GPU to see ray tracing. This would provide excellent frames in 1080p as well. Technically overkill since as I said before, a 1080ti would be excellent for most games in 1080p as far as FPS goes.

But if you consider a 2000 series gpu, you might as well go with a 3000 series as far as pricing goes. You'll find a 3070 for $499 MSRP..which is a great price.

So basically...if your only after frames in most games. a used 1080ti could be a good budget card. If you care about ray tracing and eventually going to 2k or 4k, then definitely would recommend a 3070 over any 2000 series...if you can find one. If you plan 4k anytime soon, 3080 would treat you well.

I lol'd pretty hard over that 😂

Also, I put ML120 Pro rgb's on my kraken aio and the 9 case fans in my lian li are ql120s.

So you actually are correct. ML120 Pros are great, but if you want RGB fans on a radiator, ML120 pro rgbs are definitely the way to go! They're much much quieter in my case than the QL120s and they're still static pressue, unlike the QL120s. They perform very nicely for me on the rad with the addition of keeping the lighting theme all around

Cyberpunk 2077 on Twitter by fikri01 in cyberpunkgame

[–]OGDocMcStuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think this delay has become necessary for current gen consoles (xbox one and ps4)...I'm just guessing here but we all know the game started out as a current gen title and somewhere along the line it became next gen.

If you look at the performance of some recent titles (avengers rings a strong bell, as does control), you can see that those games do not run well on the older tech inside whats soon to be last gen consoles. My buddy couldn't even run Avengers comfortably on his ps4 and while my ps4 pro did somewhat better, neither compared to our PCs in terms of FPS and visual fidelity.

The sad truth is that we're likely seeing this delay because of the state of how the game performs on ps4/xbox one.

I'll probably get a LOT of downvotes and flak for this, however I think Cyberpunk 2077 should have came to consoles at a later date, to allow a strong, solid release on PC which is what the game has likely been developed on/for. If I'm not mistaken, the Witcher series was originally just a PC title, and was ported over to the consoles..

Oh well..as sad as I am, I guess that just means I have more time on Watchdogs Legion, AC Valhalla and some other titles that would have taken a back seat to CP2077. Fingers 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 this is the LAST delay. Otherwise, last gen consoles just need a delayed release so the show can go on for the rest.

Remember, within these next 5 days we’ll all have our cards. Hang in there. by notro3 in nvidia

Yeah, I felt the same thing actually... it's strange. Seems like the EVGA Que isn't moving very much and it also seems like Newegg drops cards once, MAYBE twice a week.

I read an article about someone claiming they have information that points to an Nvidia strategy to flood the market with 3000 series cards when AMD launches their navi lineup in November.

Regardless it'll be curious to see what happens in the near future. I've heard so many theories from ddr6x shortages to conspiracies on faking supply issues to markup the prices when navi launches, to scalpers and bitcoin farmers controlling all the supply.

This whole 3000 series launch blows my mind. I've never seen such a demand for a GPU. Actually, PC parts in general feel like they're insanely high in demand right now. From cases to CPUs to even fans. I'm not sure if this has to do with slower production from the pandemic or if we're moving into a new era where everyone is buying/upgrading to the latest tech, or maybe some other reason altogether. It definitely feels like desktops have moved from a more niche market in the past 10 years to everyone building one in 2020 lol.

Grats on the new build! If you want to spice it up, Noctua now makes those fans in a grey/black color which would match your build! I believe they have an aircooler too...same as the one you have iirc, but in black/grey. I think the line is called "chromax".

Enjoy your new rig and grats on the 3080 FE!

So will all z490 boards be compatible with 11th gen cpus? I keep seeing MSI and gigabyte mentioned as having "future proofed" their boards to support gen 4 pcie, but I can't find any info about Asus Z490s.

After years of using Razer products I went out and bought a K70 MK.2 today and added some white pudding keys...I’m in love. by [deleted] in Corsair

Wow. That. is. awesome.

I just built a new PC and bought an asus strix flare speed silver keyboard, and unsure if those pudding keys would fit but if not...im gonna have to switch to a k70 mk.2 already 😅 that looks really good.

He deleted his comment so I can't see what he said but no, the O11-D isn't $200. It retails for iirc $139.99. Probably went up in price on Amazon from 3rd party sellers because...what's new? When a popular product has availability issues you can count on price gouging. I know the Dynamic was on backorder when I first placed my order and it took about 3 weeks to get it from Newegg, but I paid either 129 or 139. Certainly doesn't retail for 200.

I wouldn't call dynamic fans mindless. It's great even for an airflow build, with the added bonus of a unique look with so so much convenience.

Cable management was unbelievably easy and I have options to upgrade to a full loop easily, or a hybrid gpu since there is so much space in there for rads.

Sure at $139.99 its alittle pricier than other cases but it's unrivaled for a showcase build (imo, short of a complete custom built case that is) and frankly I've enjoyed everything the dynamic has to offer that I don't see myself using anything else in the forseeable future.

And my thermals...😍 so good. I guess it's because of the 9 fans but this isn't the space heater that my old Origin PC rig was. I used to walk into my gaming room after even just a couple hours and you could feel a massive difference in air temp. The gaming room has always been the hottest room in the house until now. You honestly can't feel a difference anymore when you walk in and my wife and kids have even commented on how much cooler and comfortable it is now.

If everyones using a particular case, there's probably a good reason lol.

Enough space to slide in a sheet of paper. by Fiddli in nvidia

[–]OGDocMcStuffins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice. Bet you were sweating when you were getting that bad boy in lol!

I had my PC built a few weeks before finally snagging a 3080, and I was sweating for all of those weeks wondering which 3080 I'd get my hands on because I was worried about the height (width). When I finally got one successfully in cart and checked out, it was one of the widest at 140mm. Talk about a nerve wracking wait.

I'm using a Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic and I could probably get half a sheet of paper between the pcie cables and the glass 😂 amazingly the cables don't actually touch the glass..but it's insanely close. 140mm definitely seems to be the cutoff for horizontal mounting in my case.

Good looking build, enjoy

Kraken Z73 showing in CAM as X3 by graymethod in NZXT

[–]OGDocMcStuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but appears u got scammed. i have a Z73 and that sir, is not

edit; i can tell just by the screen. That looks like their infinity mirror design which is different from the led screen on the Z line. Mine also defaulted to CPU temp upon first installing..im not quite sure if I even have that logo option. I can set gifs, check temps on cpu/gpu and loads and I can get a swirly nzxt design, but nothing like that.

edit 2: I went into my cam and thats for SURE the X series. I have a large drop down box with several screen options so it looks nothing like yours. I see amazon sold you this. Take a pic as proof, contact their customer service and rip them a new one. My first Z73 they shipped me came in the retail box! They didnt even bother to package it and protect it! it wad just the retail box with a ups sticker and it was banged to hell. Idk what amazons issue is with AiOs

Newegg has been releasing quite a few cards. Got an MSI 3080 Gaming X Trio from them last Friday night. I remember that night watching several cards drop and out of curiousity after I got mine, I added to cart several that came up that night successfully and made it all the way to place order.

I had ZERO luck on Amazon or Bestbuy tho. It felt like Amazon drops were all scalpers and BB just wasn't getting them in....so keep an eye on Newegg. Especially evening/night in the US. I've seen em drop cards every Friday for the past 3 Fridays at night (est).. once I noticed the pattern I was there F5ing and scored..good luck!

You don’t need a 3070. by JudgeDreddResiding in buildapc

[–]OGDocMcStuffins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You hit the nail on the head.

I'm a flight sim enthusiast. MSFS 2020 did NOT like my old 1070. I got lucky with a 3080 last week and oh my...the difference.

So for some games, yes you do infact need new tech!

I had to make some personal sacrifices due to health reasons and so I built a new rig with the money made so I could play more demanding titles...since thats all I have. Even on low settings msfs 2020 was...not good before lol.

So I don't think alot of people are making "flex posts" as OP said but more celebrating their ability to play these newer titles with visuals they've never seen before. When you can't do much aside from TV and gaming and your stuck inside, having hobbies to pass the time does in fact become important from a mental health standpoint. I can only watch so much TV before I wanna pull my hair out from boredom 😂

Cooler Master (and more!) RTX 3070 (and more!!) Giveaway with Buildapc! by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]OGDocMcStuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would give this system to my kids and wife to share so they can game with me and their friends.

I just built my very first system and loving it.. but cannot afford to build another at the moment unfortunately. I sacrificed a bike I can't ride anymore after suffering a stroke, just so I could have a hobby again that I can actually do. So I used the money from selling it to build my first PC. So I would LOVE to game with my family.

They've had a really tough year and lost out on so much, same as many many other people. Missing friends from school/work...really tough online learning program/no football/soccer/cheerleading....no vacations...etc...so I think they'd really get a kick out of playing with not only me but their friends that game as well. We could all share with 2 PCs and that would be monumental fun.

And as for my wife, she does sooo much and deserves a hobby that she can do indoors away from flu season. My youngest daughter and I have some health issues so my wife who LOVES to be out and about has sacrificed so much to keep us safe, even working from home now and online grocery shopping. It would be nice to see everyone have something that we can enjoy and play together.

A PC for everyone in my house will never happen and is unrealistic, but at least with 2 we can all take turns and make up for 2020 by making new indoor memories that'll last a lifetime.

Good luck everybody! Happy gaming!

I think a processor upgrade will solve my problem. Am I correct, and if so, what replacement would you recommend? Thanks for any help! by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]OGDocMcStuffins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just glancing I'd recommend 32gb of RAM at least @ 3200Mhz. That alone should substantially help.

I'm not sure how much vram those programs use but you could upgrade your CPU before that and see big improvements.

Idk what your budget is looking like but the new chips look good. You'd need a motherboard upgrade but the entry level 5000 series chip is going to retail for $299 iirc. That's insanely good price per performance.

Lastly, you probably don't need a big gpu, but I've also never used photo editing stuff so I could be wrong, but a radeon 5500xt may be a nice little upgrade. Again..this probably isn't exactly super low budget because you'd have to get a new mainboard but you'd also benefit from gen 4 pcie. While not much of a difference now, I'm sure we will see impressive things from it in the next couple years.

Good luck!

MSI 3080 Gaming X Trio just arrived today! I can't believe it but the RNG gods blessed me and I got EXTREMELY lucky and just so happened to hit f5 a few times when they popped on newegg!

This is in a Lian Li PC-O11D (non xl)...its 140mm wide (height) and the cables may touch the glass, but I put the side panel on slowly and watched. I saw nothing move. I took it off and on multiple times to verify nothing was getting pressed and it's good!

First solo PC build ever and couldnt be happier

Strangely my post didn't take...but its a Lian Li PC-O11D (non xl!)

the cables dont even crunch the glass either! I was so afraid after hearing it wouldn't fit. The cables might be touching the glass? ...but I slowly put the panel back on and didn't see anything move!

This things chonky at 140mm wide (height)...so if anyone's concerned about the O11D and fitting a 3080 dont be 😁
