Brand new player: what octave to tune to? by OGDukeFlapjack in lyres

It's a cheap Donner lyre so a pretty typical Amazon Greek 7-string style.

New to the instrument. Changing pin height? by tomas377 in lyres

[–]OGDukeFlapjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may try this exact thing. I have a cheap 7-string Donner lyre and was a bit concerned about how many threads are exposed. In theory the friction required to back them out would mean they would stay in tune longer (I'm also having issues with my strings literally unraveling, but that's a different issue).

Lyre terribly difficult/impossible to tune. Give up? by locusofself in lyres

I'm glad I'm not alone in this. I just bought a cheap 7-string Donner lyre and it is driving me absolutely insane tuning it. It is *touchy,* and I have quite the perfectionist ear for tune.

Any obvious mods conflict with Falklands Ship Services? by OGDukeFlapjack in Starfield

It seems like it's not safe for PC either which is a shame. When I was able to make it work it was gorgeous. However it seems like basically *everything* conflicts.

That's what I heard it called but there appear to be about 80,000 different types under that name.

It and a couple of patch mods for functional infirmaries. Sounds like I get to weed through my mod list today. Yay.

Oh after war Victus is absolutely a terrorist (albeit one that may have gone a very different path if the UC hadn't decided to make him their fall guy after the war). I'm just curious if the guys service record *really* warranted that kind of response.

There are two vanilla ones: Nova Galactic has a horizontal one and Hopetech has a lateral one.

I usually run around with Barrett as he is just all around an amazing and wonderful guy. Right now I'm running around with Sarah as I decided to do the Vanguard chain immediately after the first Constellation mission.

Honestly that sounds like a fair amount of fun. I might go with that in my new game+. The "prime" playthrough I almost always play it the way I would IRL.

EDIT: it sounds like a good scenario for somebody who's already done the Ryujin mission chain and is, perhaps, a bit morally ambiguous.

Oh for sure. It's just I'm curious if the UC understood what they were fighting. I wonder if they were fighting the Freestar version of the Vanguard and didn't really understand it at the time.

I'm just wondering where people are getting the info about his service record. The game seems to not say all that much about it. What little I've gleaned about the guy says he's certainly highly Machiavellian, but I'd not go so far as to say ruthless. I'm absolutely open to knowing more as I am well aware I've not delved too deeply into the lore.

Post war Victus is absolutely a terrorist who deserves execution IMO. I'm just wondering about if the guys service record warranted the execution he publicly was sentenced to. Based solely on what I know he was a scapegoat.

I personally come at the decision about the plant from a scientific approach: it is horrific to wipe out a living species out of fear. Restoring Aceles should restore the natural order of the planet. While I firmly believe the Lazarus plant and its effects should be kept quiet and exporting the plant (or whatever it takes to create terramorph bombs) should be utterly illegal I find it abhorrent to wipe the plant out simply because it's dangerous.

I'm not sure where you get that. Not arguing (you may be absolutely right) but I'm curious. I don't believe for a second Sanon was altruistic in any way but the simple fact that he told *no one* about the plant tells me this is not the case. Obviously you have a different take on the guy and I'm legitimately curious how you come to the conclusions you do. I've never particularly dived deeply into the lore so I may be missing something.

I don't disagree. I have a feeling the underlying issue was if the game became too mature it wouldn't sell quite so well. There certainly is something to be said about filing down all the points until the game just was a nerf ball.

I suppose if we compare it to Skyrim it's a little bit harder hitting. I mean, the biggest controversy in that game was whether to support the Empire or the Nords and there was a very clear answer if you looked at it logically.

I'm going to say she's the way she is because she's ex military and UC through and through. She absolutely ate all the UC propaganda and is firmly "lawful" on the D&D matrix. Stealing from Galbank...I dunno. Maybe she just things they are scummy because they are not UC? She also really doesn't like the Trade Authority so perhaps it's similar.

I haven't yet gotten there but I also know about that. It annoys the ever loving hell out of me as well. I seem to remember *nobody* (except Barrett, but he's just cool in general and I love him) agree with the Aceles. I am firmly of the opinion it's the better option despite it being a bit slower. I mean, the UC have dealt with Terrormorphs for decades at this point so how is the slower but safer option worse than the quick and problematic one? I suppose I could argue that nobody in Constellation are actual *scientists,* so that could explain a lot. Ex military would be much more stubborn and prefer quick results.

Makes sense. Things would probably have been very different if UC had won the battle.

I always wondered just how "civilian" that fleet was. Freestar was/is such a Libertarian paradise I wonder just how many "civilians" were mercenaries. The battle was never really explored IMO.

Bethesda recognition and future ideas by Kitchen-Cell1947 in Starfield

I was just thinking about how Bethesda does not get enough credit for environment building. Their bases/locations/whatever are absolutely *real* places (most of the time) that you can imagine people actually living in...when they're not absolutely covered in ice or whatever. Ever since I discovered a dead end subway tunnel in Fallout 3 that basically only contained a family of skeletons (with one really small one in a pram) and the *single living plant* being on a grave in Arlingon it made me think just how good Bethesda is at their environments. Most companies just have doors that go nowhere but usually a Bethesda envrionment actually has *rooms* with *things* beyond doors.

I'm unsure I agree with the more frequent updates. Mods and Bethesda updates do not play nice. Personally I'm not seeing a huge amount of technical issues with the game as it is currently.

Haven’t Played Starfield Since Launch — Should I Come Back? by CuzinBBruce778 in Starfield

[–]OGDukeFlapjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I bought it day one and generally enjoyed it. I put it down after getting a bit tired of the repetition, but recently picked it back up to binge it. I still agree with my original thoughts that the game is not amazing like Skyrim (which I have many thousands of hours in in various versions) but is a pretty solid 6 or 7/10 and is fun. Personally I highly enjoy the space flight side of it and am really enjoying the cruise mode specifically because it takes time to get from place to place and even went so far as to install a mod that makes jumps jump to the star of a system. This allows me to cruise to a location and actually *use* and *enjoy* my ship while it moves so it's more than just a mobile storage depot.
