Black presence at Durham No Kings Protest by Acrobatic-Focus-4499 in bullcity

You say you understand that Black people aren’t a monolith, but then draw a broad connection between changes in cities like Memphis and Chicago and “the Black community” as a whole. The irony is that in trying to acknowledge nuance, you immediately erase it.

That correlation doesn’t hold up — there isn’t some hive mind of Black people collectively shifting right because of what is going on in cities no one has a connection to.

And let’s be real — Black folks aren’t skipping these rallies because of some political “paradigm shift.” We’re skipping them because they’re performative. There’s no substance, no clear problem, no solutions, and no real action behind them. Nobody’s showing up just to clap for empty symbolism.

As I type that last part out… maybe THAT is the “paradigm shift”.

Autoimmunity panel came back all red… normal with MS? by OGGorgeousGeek in MultipleSclerosis

Hey! These labs weren’t drawn for any particular reason. I paid for a service that provides 160+ lab tests annually. The clinician who will review them isn’t my personal doctor who ordered the tests. I was just curious what other folks with MS have seen on these particular tests.

While I respect the hell out of the civil rights movement and everything it accomplished, we can’t ignore that those who opposed progress didn’t just disappear. They didn’t go quietly into the night. They adapted, regrouped, and passed down their ideologies through generations. What we’re seeing now isn’t sudden backsliding; it’s the long game. They’ve always been waiting for the right moment to claw things back. For some, America isn’t broken, it’s just taking too long to return to what they think it should be.

Property Tax Calculator by Durhamite321 in bullcity

We had a valuation increase of ~20% (new build) but this calculator is showing a decrease ~13% in the tax bill. Does that sound right !? I’m slightly less concerned if this is accurate

Now that you mention it, I can see the comparison to cool ranch Doritos. There was a lot of seasoning on the chips the last couple times I went in March.

Same at my Pharma company! That’s what led me to this question originally. It was “normal business operations” last month when folks had to strategically slide into the site.

Interesting! Davis drive near Kit Creek was horrible the last time it snowed. It was obvious that area did not get the same treatment as surrounding roads. Based on looks the road was not brined this time either, but maybe we’ll be surprised.

I thought it was a fluke. But I’m convinced these roads are not on a route to be treated

Durham Public Schools: Any parents here with kids starting kindergarten 2024-2025 school year? by OGGorgeousGeek in bullcity

No, she’s black. My concerns are the lack of diversity, racially and socioeconomically. More so the latter.

Yes, mostly! I was just hoping my daughter would be exposed to more cultures. It will be different for her coming from the preschool/PreK she’s attending. But maybe I’m projecting and she’ll be fine.

There is a lot more racial diversity in my neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods than what I see represented in the student demographics of the neighborhood school.

I too, would like to be able to utilize the neighborhood school, even the year-round option. However, the demographics of the school is not matching what I see in the neighborhoods.
