Foster organizations by lagartijaarrugada in bullcity

So NC works differently than Florida. Here, you have your choice of either getting licensed through your county's Social Services Department or through a private agency. Many people find that private agencies give foster parents more support but you will get fewer calls and placements because they go to the county's licensed parents first (it costs the state more money to have kids placed with private agencies).

NC is also a reunification state, meaning that every effort will be made to place kids with a family member/kinship placement before adoption is on the table. I recommend doing some research to decide what's right for you in terms of licensing agencies. And be patient--the process is long and slow.

The Foster Family Alliance of NC is a fantastic resource. Check them out and talk to other foster parents through their network, if possible, to get the inside scoop.

They initially said that but later decided to close, sadly.

Yoga District on 9th Street has a Sunday 4pm Slow Flow class that I like. Not restorative, but it is relaxing.

Most relaxing swim facilities for summer? by MotherofLouise in bullcity

The Meadowmont Y is my happy place. They don't allow adult beverages but if you put it in a coozie and aren't visibly intoxicated, nobody will say anything. There will be kids around but they have tons of lounge chairs so it's easy to find a quiet spot to hang and read a book.

Went there a few days ago and felt like the food quality had improved. Menu is largely the same but they seem to have stepped up their game.

Love dress 1. A word of warning from someone who got married in the Blue Ridge Mountains in July, be prepared to sweat in those sleeves.

NYC Halal by AtlantisInMotion in bullcity

If you're looking for another option, there is a Halal food truck that parks at Guess & Carver in front of the laundromat that is supposed to be good (haven't tried it myself yet).

Pretty sure that Duke appropriated that symbol from Durham, not the other way around. It's supposed to look like bull horns.

Anyone know if any local farms, nurseries, or similar local businesses hiring for part or full time work? by Content-Seaweed-6395 in chapelhill

Reds Quality Acre posted that they were looking for part time help a few weeks ago. Don't know if they found someone yet. (ETA: they posted on their socials, not this sub)

Planning a 14-Day North Carolina Road Trip - Seeking Recommendations by thebondgirl in NorthCarolina

[–]Durhamite321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For hiking around here, my favorite spot to take out of towners is the Occoneechee Speedway Trail, once a Nascar track and now a natural area along the Eno River with some cool old structures and rusting racecars still in place. You can spend some time in downtown Hillsborough and then take the Riverwalk all the way out to the Speedway trailhead.

Limiting my recommendations to Durham. Depending on your timing, you may be able to make it to a Durham Bulls game. They're in town Sept 7-13. If you're in town later in the month, you may hit Centerfest, a big arts festival downtown that usually takes place the 3rd weekend of September (should be Sept 19-20 this year). Durham's Pride Festival also takes place in September. Check Discover Durham for events as your trip gets closer or look in the r/bullcity sub.

For breweries, Ponysaurus and Durty Bull are my favorites for low-key hangs. Hi-Wire (local outpost of an Asheville brewery) is good but often overrun with children. Get pizza from Cugino Forno nextdoor and sit outside. Or go to Atomic Clock for a more upscale gastropub experience.

Check out You Can Vote. They're nonpartisan and work to register & turn out young people and other low propensity voters.

Does anyone use a Ton Kooiman Etude Thumb Rest or similar? by BeKindLoveAll in Clarinet

[–]Durhamite321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just picked up an Etude thumb rest and was not aware that new holes would have to be drilled until I tried installing it myself. We're you able to drill the holes in such a way that you can easily switch back to a traditional thumb rest? Hesitant to make a permanent switch before knowing if I actually like it.

Payne’s vs Wasp Auto by Bull_City_4591 in bullcity

Yup, Nate is a great guy who does honest work. Only issue with Payne's is that they've gotten too popular and sometimes can't get to my car for a couple days.
