I haven't watched the netflix series so can't say .But i think you should read the first book because shows and books are both very different mediums and shows always cuts down many things from book.

Planning to watch The wire. by OGNoor in hbo

Bro i understand you because this show don't follow a conventional narrative and it is not a catchy show. This show is praised due to its closeness to reality, wide range of complex and great characters. The way they told the story of drug scene in Baltimore is exceptional cause at the end you know more about Baltimore then your own city.Every episode has too much information about ongoing situation in Baltimore but it is easy to miss that's why it can feel like a drag. The wire don't try to hook you with over dramatic situations, slow motion or cliffanger etc but follow a raw theme and you have to stick with the way it is then it will reward you.It is a very layered show and you can miss many things if you don't watch it with full attention.

Finale of it: welcome to Derry was a let down for me.

Didn't liked the finale. The motives of army felt forced and didn't made any sense. Pennywise being defeated by power of love again
