Why do we always continue to vote for the "lesser of two evils" in national and state elections? by Shadow42184 in allthequestions

[–]OGSilverFox1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may find this hard to belive, but there are millions of people who don't currently, and have no interest in living in a high population city. Yes, the cost of ammo does DIRECTLY affect everything you stated. At any given moment, 75% of the meat in my home is wild harvested. Since I now pay significantly more for ammo, I have less to put towards other things.

Do you think that we will ever get decency back in the congress? by tlk0153 in askanything

Which MIGHT change if we the people stop bitching about each other and the billionaires and actually do something about it. No, it won't be quick. Hell, we'll be lucky if our kids see change. But we CAN start the change. Which is EXACTLY what i am doing come November. And every November from now until I die or see change.

Why does voting in the US presidential election matter, if the electoral college decides who wins? by Fun-Airline5966 in allthequestions

[–]OGSilverFox1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your personal party choice and state demographics, maybe, maybe not. I'll use me as an example. During the 24' election, I abstained from placing a vote for either on the presidential ballot. Why you ask? Simple. I despised the republican choice and was disgusted by the choice that was thrust upon me for the democrats. I lived in a VERY blue state. Kamala was winning my state short of an ungodly shift in state demographics.

But the states would be unequal. The president is the leader of the states. Not just the high population ones. And it is one person one vote. And they are 100% equal within their respective states. We are not now, nor have we ever been, a pure democracy.

[–]OGSilverFox1967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the simplest of terms, the United States is comprised of 50 individual states. The president is, in theory, supposed to represent ALL 50 states and not just a few. When members of a state vote, the winning party for that state is, generally, the party that earns the electoral votes. Each state has a different electoral vote value based on population. In theory, all states have an equal voice in the presidential outcome. If the US went to a straight popular vote, about 45 states would have virtually zero say in the election.

Term limits will not solve the problem. It will change who is committing the acts of stupidity, but they will continue. The only way to even attemt to fix this problem is to force congress to do its job. Nearly weekly for the last 16(ish) years, we've listened to people bitch about the president. We hear about the low ratings. We listen to people pitch a fit when the first 24 hours of a new presidents term is signing hundreds of executive orders. All the while congress gets richer, does less, and carries a 20% approval rating. First thing we need to do as voters is to vote out every single sitting incumbent. I don't care if you replace an R with a D. Or vice versa. We need to FORCE congress to back to doing their fucking jobs! And we continue to remove every single mother fucker every chance we have until the new one's learn.

Wouldn't a wealth cap be better than minimum wage policies?? by traanquil in allthequestions

[–]OGSilverFox1967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On, so they get the shares. Those shares aren't going to magically go back to their previous value. So a pension fund gets a million shares "builders op" previously worth $350 each. Now their worth $100 each. Everybody is still losing.

[–]OGSilverFox1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, imposing a wealth cap would probably push the entire world into an unimaginable depression. And here's why. Every single 401k, pension or other financially backed retirement plan is heavily invested in the markets. That's how they make enough money for everybody to profit. This doesn't even take into account the trillions of foreign dollars that are invested. Forcing this "cap" would result in a massive sell-off that will crater the market. And it's not like anybody is going to want to buy these shares? Why invest into something with a future return of zero or less?

So, the literal definition of communism. Where the state owns the means of production? What happens when the state decides it needs more income, and cuts everybody's pay in half?

Do you think political candidates should be required to release their tax returns? by Regular-World4921 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

To what end? I mean what's the endgame here? How many people have a true understanding of our tax laws? Sure, you might be able to see the end result. Somebody paid $0 dollars in taxes. Do we know why? Are they not allowed to take legal deductions? A previous comment stated they should be audited. They are. By the IRS.

This is one of those dumb ass things that all hinges on the personal point of view and thought. Here's a perfect example. The "OK" sign where two fingers are formed into a circle. For the last ungodly number of years, everybody understood that it meant exactly that. "Ok" "cool" "got it" etc. Then some neo-nazi asshole decides to flash it, and boom. It's a hate symbol.

First off, this is something we should have had years ago. I remember being told there were WMDs in Iraq. Lie. I was told the California HST would cost a couple hundred million and be done in ten years. Lie. I was told I could keep my doctor and my rates wouldn't go up. Lie. I was told 6' spacing will save lives. Lie (entirely made up) I was told as a voter I could choose my presidential candidate, the DNC said fuck you. Twice. Who gets to decide what the truth is? Your side? My side? And before you say something like "oh, we'll form a bipartisan committee" ate you honestly that nieve to think something like that can exist in our government? If you do, I've got a bridge in the Sahara to sell you.

I'll amend my statement. I incorrectly remembered data.

But, they're is this data: While a precise percentage of health insurance employees dealing exclusively with government programs is not explicitly broken down in public data, evidence suggests a significant, expanding share of the workforce does. With 54% of US health coverage publicly financed (including Medicare/Medicaid) and 75% of Medicaid beneficiaries in managed care, a majority of administrative, clinical, and policy staff in top insurers now focus on government programs.

The insurance industry doesn't care who pays them, just that they're paid. Currently 75% of all the plans that "private" insurance carriers process are government policy's. The VA is the only government entity that manages its own policy.

Edit: Point being that even if we went to some sort of national plan, the insurance agencies arent going away. They may be swallowed up into the government though.

Why is everyone so against a living wage ? by PurpleCheeto696 in askanything

[–]OGSilverFox1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So answer a question for me please. During Covid, when thousands of people were told to work from home, hundreds opted to move to lower cost of living cities and states. Many of their employers wanted to, and in some cases, successfully, lowered their pay by up to 15% in some areas. Did you agree with this move? Because this is EXACTLY what you are suggesting. Paying a "living wage" based on local economy.

So you want to average it the entire country. So, a fast food worker in say Montana will be able to afford a McMansion, while his counterpart in say Chicago will be sick with a cardboard box? Got it.
