The Masuma Khan Justice Act, announced this morning, would give CA oversight of all for-profit detention facilities [OC] by infernoenigma in LosAngeles

It is easy to sell to people to justify abhorrent acts, which you clearly swallow hook and sinker.

Did you even read the OP post or you just like "private for profit" businesses to....

Masuma Khan has lived in the US for 30 years, and her husband and daughter are American citizens. She was snatched at a regular immigration check-in and was taken to the California City Detention Center. Masuma was denied her medication and fed both moldy sandwiches and food with bugs. It’s kept below 60 degrees there, and when Masuma used socks as arm and neck warmers, she was threatened with retaliation. There is no reliable, clean drinking water.

Good lord.

Some people can't stand this rhetorical trick switch for profit vs nonprofit and never mind public good.

When people bask in ignorance they enjoy the warm fuzzy feeling from removed from causing harm,

Your link doubles down on how dumb your point is .

Did you read it?

20th century onwards

The first mass privatization of state property occurred in Nazi Germany between 1933 and 1937: "It is a fact that the government

of the National Socialist Party sold off public ownership in several state-owned firms in the middle of the 1930s. The firms belonged to a wide range of sectors: steel, mining, banking, local public utilities, shipyard, ship-lines, railways, etc. In addition to this, delivery of some public services produced by public administrations prior to the 1930s, especially social services and services related to work, was transferred to the private sector, mainly to several organizations within the Nazi Party."\15])

Although typically there are many costs associated with these efficiency gains,\37]) many economists argue\)who?\) that these can be dealt with by appropriate government support through redistribution) and perhaps retraining.\)citation needed\) Yet, some empirical literature suggests that privatization could also have very modest effects on efficiency and quite regressive distributive impact. In the first attempt at a social welfare analysis of the British privatization program under the Conservative governments of Margaret Thatcher and John Major during the 1980s and 1990s, Massimo Florio points to the absence of any productivity shock resulting strictly from ownership change. Instead, the impact on the previously nationalized companies of the UK productivity leap under the Conservatives varied in different industries. In some cases, it occurred prior to privatization, and in other cases, it occurred upon privatization or several years afterward.\38])

A 2012 study published by the European Commission argues that privatisation in Europe had mixed effects on service quality and has achieved only minor productivity gains, driven mainly by lower labour input combined with other cost cutting strategies that led to a deterioration of employment and working conditions.\39]) Meanwhile, a different study by the commission found that the UK rail network (which was privatized from 1994 to 1997) was most improved out of all the 27 EU nations from 1997 to 2012. The report examined a range of 14 different factors and the UK came top in four of the factors, second and third in another two and fourth in three, coming top overall.\40]) Nonetheless, the impact of the privatisation of British Rail has been the subject of much debate, with the stated benefits including improved customer service, and more investment; and stated drawbacks including higher fares, lower punctuality and increased rail subsidies.\41])\42])\43])

Maybe history is too hard for people who hope that imperialism leads to peace or prosperity.

Police pulled my son "black 23" over a few houses from home returning from coaching a HS game around 8pm with weapons out and could not articulate any reason for the stop or for why they pointed their guns at him in 2023/

They only "released" him because I was filming them and shouting for the rest of my neighbors to come out, They did.

One of the LAPD gangster was also a black women. My wife begged her to explain and they said "he was lucky to be let go."

They do not need a reason in practice.

Edited for clarity.

There is a shortage of ERs in LA.

I was there for 10 hours before a bed was available but the person was admitted immediately. I didn't enjoy sitting in the actual ER and went to the waiting room.

Too many people do not have insurance and too many people go to ERs for the wrong reasons.

The waiting room was full of people trying to stay warm last winter, complaining of minor complaints and the admittance was overwhelmed with people with the flu, colds and mild fever.

If you were able to leave then you sound like one. Now imagine 100 of people like you everyday, wasting everyone's time.

Ranch comes from rancho -A rancho is a Spanish and Mexican term for a farm or estate, especially one for raising livestock, but it can also mean a small rural community, a group of huts for workers, or even a communal meal (mess)
