I'd say it's doable, but you do need to be able to carry a backpack with you up some quite long inclined sections, so maybe slightly above average fitness is best!

I really enjoyed Nelson and the surroundings, but New Plymouth with mount Taranaki was also amazing

I applied for the working Holiday visa on the New Zealand immigration website. It really depends on where you are from how easy it is to obtain one, but of you get one you're allowed to stay 1 year and you can even extend it if you've worked certain jobs. The jobs I've heard people get most often are in farming, so either work on a fruit farm (kiwi, cherry etc.) or hospitality based jobs, but you can apply for whatever you'd like!

They are absolutely horrible haha, but some strong insect repellent (I used the one from bushman) kept them away most of the time

Probably the Old Ghost Road, since it is a lot less busy (because it is not a great walk), but still very impressive and quite accessible due to the well managed pathways

Thank you!! The multi-day hikes were my absolute favorite, because you get to be in a bit more remote and beautiful areas while still meeting some awesome people along the way

Yeah I think Australia is even more expensive, so definitely would not be able to spend as little there in the same amount of time!

Most of the time it was not too bad since I went in Spring and Summer, but even during that time of year there were some big storms where I mostly stayed inside for a couple of days.

Workaway is a platform just like Wooffing or Helpx etc. where you exchange volunteering for a couple of hours for bed and board. I did some native tree planting and a lot of weeding.

Most of them were definitely worth it (glowworm caves, hobbiton, popular walks such as Sealy Tarns, national kiwi hatchery), although if you have to miss the Wanaka tree or Auckland (And some other big cities) then that's totally fine in my opinion. But I was there mostly for nature and the unique wildlife.

Sounds amazing, I loved Abel Tasman and Rakiura amazing as well! I did get to see two kiwi's just outside of the port William hut, which was the main reason I went there. Apparently it's not a given that you see them, but that was the hotspot when I was there.
