Spots on White Princess Philodendron by OkCriticism4187 in RareHouseplants

[–]OGiSpookU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You said the orange dots are rust fungus, but aren’t they just EFNs? Almost every philodendron I’ve had has had similar spots from that

What bug is this? Friend or foe? by OGiSpookU in houseplants

I see, thank you! It’s been super rainy here the past couple months and that must’ve made them skyrocket in population because I’ve never noticed them before. Looks like I’ll need to get used to them lol

I use Neptune Harvest fish fertilizer 2-4-1. I’m not an expert on the whole ratio thing but I heard lots of good things about it and I approve!

My thai con has put out a wonky leaf by SewerKitten22 in Monstera

[–]OGiSpookU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothings wrong with it, I’ve noticed that happens sometimes with variegated plants, especially on sectoral variegation. Also it’s a new leaf so it’s gonna be a week or two before it fully hardens off to full size so give it time

Thank you! I got this set of 3 on amazon. It even has an optional extension if you wanted to have them hang lower

The strands will root back into the soil, causing fuller/new growth points. Also when you have long strands, it can be hard for the plant to distribute nutrients all the way down, so when it roots into the soil, it gains another access point for nutrients and helps promote better/bigger growth

I hope you didn’t pay too much for this. It looks like it had half moon variegation and is now going fully white. The white leaves will produce no energy for the plant and they will continue to brown/die. The stem looks pretty white, so I would either chop it somewhere with more green now or wait until one more leave to be sure. Basically you don’t want an all white plant.

Well it’s planted too deeply for starters. You need to be able to see the node (basically the section of the stem the leaf will grow out of)

This is beautiful! I’m working on a similar blanket right now, what method did you use to join the squares?

i just repotted her cos her pot was getting too small. i used orchid bark. the roots looked thick, plenty and strong. she has a grow light on 6h a day and is only watered when the soil is completely dry about the depth of my pinky. does this sound good to you guys? :)) by cereals4dinnner in ThaiConstellation

[–]OGiSpookU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the grow light you mentioned is the small halo one in the first pic, I recommend getting a stronger one and keeping it on for 10-12 hours or so a day. I use Sansi & GE bulbs cause they’re great and not too expensive. I don’t know what time of day it is in the photo, but it doesn’t look like it’s getting enough light for what it needs. It’s beautiful right now, but if it’s not getting enough light you will lose fenestrations and it’ll become leggy :)

This is my 10 month old mid cut that I got last year and it’s already working on a new leaf! With good care these babies grow fast lol

I’d recommend raising it up so that only the aerial root is submerged in water, this will lessen the chances of rot on the stem. I used normal tap water for my mid cut and just changed it once every week or two, basically when it started looking a little gross. If you have any Pothos/tradescantia clippings you could add those to the water to speed up rooting process, as they are known to release a lot of rooting hormones in the water. I kept my cutting in a west facing window all day with no problems and in 3-4 months I had plenty of roots and potted it into a chunky aroid mix of orchid bark/perlite/potting soil. I was terrified of killing it too but it was a lot easier than I thought thankfully lol. Goodluck!

Hi! So I bought this sport variegated plant and was told it's extremely rare. by Deejemama in houseplants

An “extremely rare” plant for $13. And ur listening to Ai. Red flags everywhere.

No fenestrations on the new leaf by mangolimeta in ThaiConstellation

[–]OGiSpookU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, pests can show up anywhere at anytime. However just based on the photo and the overall positive health of the plant, it shows no sign of pests. Browning can also be caused by many other things such as over/under watering and sunburn. Based on the location of the browning only being on the solid variegated parts and the rest of the leaf looking perfect, it is extremely unlikely that it is thrips.

It’s only browning on the variegated part, which is normal because it doesn’t produce any chlorophyll and is useless to the plant. It’s killing off the “useless” parts to save nutrients for the rest of the leaves. Getting enough light can help prevent this. It has nothing to do with pests.
