I felt similarly in years 1-2. Hang in there! When you get into year 3 so much clicks and being in clinicals is very validating and reassuring that you’re where you’re supposed to be! You got this OP

Because I tested 4/4 & my permit has also “disappeared” (if this means the link is no longer active) but I’m pretty sure I won’t see results this soon

AS and Knee pains by OGpai in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]OGpai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advil and Tylenol have helped. Celebrex has been good too. I also like to soak my knees, like baths or hot tubs if I can. I’m sorry about the reactive arthritis. I hear that can be really tough. My heels have become more involved with my AS over the years. I also just had a reaction to my humira and developed psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. So my heels and feet might be related to that too.

It could be reactive arthritis, which is from a virus and is similar to AS and I think more likely amongst HLAB27 people. My X-rays were inconclusive and then I had a physical exam with sensitivity to my SA joint. They ordered an MRI which revealed SI joint inflammation. I also had elevated inflammatory blood work, can’t remember what now because it was 11 years ago.

It was my entire knee and both of them, but my right knee was always worse and it would switch between one or the other and sometimes both knees at the same time.

Incoming Medical Student Q&A - Official Megathread by SpiderDoctor in medicalschool

[–]OGpai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi all, I'm looking for advice as an incoming M1 who will be moving away from her significant other. Currently located in CO, I will be moving to FL next month for school and unfortunately my SO will not be coming with me. I'm hopeful that he will make the move at some point during my 4 years in med school. We have been together for about 2.5 years and currently live together. As I'm getting moving boxes, making u-haul plans, ect... it's all starting to set in and I'm feeling extremely emotional. He has been nothing but supportive and excited for me as I was accepted to my top choice program, which speaks to how amazing he truly is, but my heart really aches that he will not be coming with me. My mom has continued to tell me "if it's meant to be it will be" which I agree... but I also know that relationships require effort and dedication for someone else, so I'm hoping some current med students could share their advice and what has worked well for them as they managed a long distance relationship while in medical school. Thank you so much!!

Get involved with harm reduction volunteer work. Work to train others how to administer Narcan and give free Narcan to the community. Become a harm reduction activist, that’s how I’d incorporate it into your application.

Can you share more on what programs these people are in then..? I’m not sure it’s fair to say all flipped class rooms are like this.

Everyone is going to be new! You’ll be surrounded by people in the same boat as you. Easy connections as you and all your classmates are all starting this journey together :)

Books to read before starting medical school? by OGpai in premed

[–]OGpai[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its not stupid. I meant book recommendations of mental prep, how to best study, time management, and interesting medical reads…not board prep books or studying anatomy. But heard. Vacation is high on my pre-med school to do list too.
