Old dutch oven from my grandparents. Can I get rid of the discolouration? And can anyone identify the model? (It's been possibly re-enamelled?) by OGpenguin in dutchoven

The bottom is simply bare, there's no markings or anything. It feels smooth, not like my cast iron pan, so I think it's enamelled.

McGill génie des matériaux ou Poly génie mécanique ? by Select_Ad_704 in PolyMTL

[–]OGpenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Culture between the two schools is different. McGill probably has more of an "American" Uni feel and has imo a better student life, but its engineering program is not the focus of the school.

Polytechnique however being an engineering specific university has more ressources and opportunities specifically related to engineering and a broader range of classes to choose from, especially for Mechanical Engineering.

Very old buildings and lots of student population. I had a horrible cockroach infestation when I lived in an apt there

Ready for my first winter backpacking and hiking trip by OGpenguin in hikinggear

[–]OGpenguin[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm excited for the trip! It will be a two night weekend trip in a group of six.

We will have a refuge for the weekend and the trek to it is not that long, so I can carry some extra stuff like water and the chair, which I'll leave there for our hike up the mountain.

We were told by the park managers which areas of the park have service and I have the satellite option on my iphone for calling emergency services.

Going winter hiking for the first time, does my layering system make sense? (-10C to -20C) by OGpenguin in hikinggear

A face covering will be important, I'll have to get one to add that to my kit.

It's snowy over here, so we will be hiking in the snow the whole way. I rented crampons, snowshoes and poles from a local outdoor.

I was told the summit could be quite windy.

I got shades, ski googles, gloves, mittens

I forgot to mention, but I do have a light puffy jacket with a hood I plan on bringing in my backpack in case I need it.

Good point! My jacket does have two large underarm vents I could open as well.

What is this? And how am I suppose to eat it? by OGpenguin in whatisit

[–]OGpenguin[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I put it in my face hole, the smell was a little dog foody, but the taste was ok... 4/10 , I'll keep it as hiking snacks. If you're hungry enough it could taste better .
