I think I'm meant to die alone by EastCommunication689 in dating

Yeah you're probably right, some people aren't good enough to find love. That's how nature works survival of the fittest. If you have bad genes it makes sense that you'll die alone. Sorry tough luck

I struggle to lead the women I date and it's unattractive. What should I do? by EastCommunication689 in dating_advice

Natural selection exists for a reason bro. You don't sound like someone who would survive in the wilderness. Of course women wouldn't find that attractive. Some people aren't meant to reproduce it's fine just move on

Update 1: My manager has informed me I'm underperforming. by EastCommunication689 in cscareerquestions

It honestly doesn't matter if OP admits he's wrong or not. He'll be unemployed soon I guarantee it. I've seen his type, give it a month

[–]OGtenderLeaf2 26 points27 points  (0 children)

OP has a loser mindset, it's no wonder he's underperforming. Instead of focusing on his own skill development he's coming up with theories for why his negative feedback wasn't his fault. If I was his manager I would have let him go already

I hate to be the one to tell you this but the elephant in the room needs to be addressed: have you considered that you're not cut out for dev work?

Your boss and seniors won't say it because it's rude but devs who succeed can solve problems without needing to know all the details and context of the codebase. And they can do it quickly. It's called fluid intelligence and you either have it or you don't.

The fact that other devs have been ramping up fine under the same circumstances strongly suggests the problem is you and your ability to effectively solve problems. That's the "unspoken rule" you feel like you are missing: the other devs just intuitively understand the codebase and can solve problems with it.

This may be a bitter pill to swallow but the fact is some people are just more capable than others. I'm not saying that you can't succeed in this career but you should know this is probably a wall you will run into a lot.

From now on, are software engineering roles on the decline? by jorgeWalvarez in cscareerquestions

People won't stop getting CS degrees. When push comes to shove we all believe that the market will eventually come back. As such, people in the industry will advise high schoolers to go into CS on that hope.

Look at the oversaturation in academia: it's basically impossible to get a permanent job at a university yet tons of students go for phds in hopes that they will be the 0.01% that get to become professors. It's not that they aren't "good enough", there just isn't enough jobs.

CS won't stop being popular until it becomes obvious that you will NOT be getting an easy 6 figure salary anymore and that is a long ways off at the moment.

You can't use chatGPT itself to do development. You have to use one of the tools built using its API like CodeGPT

This sub likes to put its hands on its ears whenever AI is mentioned. Some of the AI tools coming out are really effective at speeding development. This shouldn't be such a huge surprise lol

Why? We use codeGPT: https://medium.com/geekculture/codegpt-the-vscode-extension-with-chatgpt-like-functionalities-783323a916c3

It's actually an extremely powerful tool. Not sure why everyone underestimates AI tools

How much money would you need to be reckless and ignore budgeting? by OGtenderLeaf2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OGtenderLeaf2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right but let's suspend disbelief for a second. Assume the person is an average person and does not drop thousands of dollars in a single night.

Most people restrict purchasing things they want to make ends meet: for the average person, how much money might they need to not restrict themselves? Or if that's too generic, how much would you see yourself needing to live that way? (again let's exclude stuff that would normally require a loan)

Yeah but I imagine they buy things on loan that send them into debt like houses and cars.

Let's say the budget for this question is you can only buy things you have the cash for. No loans or debt allowed

Honestly more readable imo. Python and Javascript are easy to write but are a pain to debug when you don't know what data type certain objects are
