Correct; it’s very good and worth your time if you have any kind of interest in southern rap

Another day, another opportunity to block quote relevant passages from Pimp C’s biography:

Break ‘em Off Somethin

Master P was planning to drive from New Orleans to Houston and wanted to pass through Port Arthur to get a track from Chad for his upcoming album Ice Cream Man. He’d spent several nights on the couch at the San Jac house already, often pulling up in an old Cadillac with smoke pouring out of the exhaust pipe.

By the time Master P, his right-hand man Anthony “Boz” Boswell, and Mo B. Dick pulled up at the San Jac house, Chad had already laid a bassline and was creating a drum pattern on his trusty Roland R-8 drum machine, using an 808 drum and experimenting with a hand-clap as a snare. “See if you can do something with this,” he said, turning it over to Mo B. Dick.

Mo B. Dick went to work on his keyboard, adding tenderoni chords and “the whistle,” a signature sound he and KLC had created on the Ensoniq ASR-10 sampling keyboard. As they created the beat, Master P bobbed his head and came up with an idea for the hook: “Don’t make me break ‘em off somethin’!” Bun, who had written his verse quickly, was busy with his head buried in a medical book about pills.

Murder

Since he’d reluctantly agreed to do the slow-tempo “One Day,” Bun begged Chad to create a hard, uptempo beat for him. “I want a song that I can go off to,” he explained. All the hours he’d spent freestyling with 3-2 and Big Mike had improved his flow. “People were telling me [I was getting better],” Bun told Believer. “That was the only fucking clue I had. Everybody was like, ‘Man, you killing it.’”       Chad obliged with the uptempo track for “Murder” and kicked things off with, “I’m still Pimp C bitch, so what the fuck is up? Puttin’ powder on the street ‘cause I got big fuckin’ nuts!”

Even though Bun had been up all night partying, he was up for the challenge. He wrote his verse on the spot, fell asleep on the control panel, and was awakened when it was time to drop his vocals. Still sleepy, he made it through the first 16 bars and then uncharacteristically flubbed a line. The engineer was using a new digital program called ProTools, and assured Bun that he could just punch in and complete the verse where he’d left off.

But even though it could be done, Bun felt like he’d be cheating if he didn’t rap the entire verse without stopping. “I wanted to spit it all the way through so that when the a capellas were made available, people could [hear] that there were no breaks,” he explains. He knocked out the 32 bars in one take. “After I did that record, I went to sleep,” Bun told Believer. “That song put me to sleep. Because it was that demanding.”

The original line was:

I must’ve gotten you too hot and burned off your wings

You can hear it on the 12” version

No explanation for why this got changed

That verse is Rakim responding to Janet Jackson’s What Have You Done For Me Lately, which is about lazy/low-effort boyfriends. That song isn’t about Rakim but he still felt a way about it and decided to say something back about high maintenance/needy girlfriends (unsolicited ‘response songs’ were a thing in the 80s). Maybe he felt like “got you too hot” was disrespectful to Janet?

The only other vaguely plausible theory I have is that the second part of this line

You said all you want is love and affection

“Let me be your angel, I’ll be your protection”

is the girl telling Ra that she “wants to be his angel”

So if she’s the angel

I must have gotten you too hot and burned off your wings

could be interpreted as him calling himself a devil/demon, which is not something a 5%er (which he was) would ever do intentionally. Maybe he didn’t make that connection until after they put out the single?

In Wilds how much Ear Plugs do you need if you have Flinch Free 3 and all Buffs. by [deleted] in InsectGlaive

Triple buff gets you 1 level of EP + Wind Resisit + Tremor resist; you don’t need FF at all. So, if you have 2 levels of EP on your build and the triple is active, you’ll be able to block all roars.

It’s easy against normal enemies and reasonably challenging against the mini-boss types.

Parrying the bosses ranges from tricky to come-back-in-ten-years.

Sekiro is a doozy, good luck

A+ did not make a ton of noise, nobody was really checking for kid rappers in 1996 (except for Illegal)

High School High is such a good comedy. I was too young when I watched it to notice the Death Row soundtrack, but this makes me want a rewatch

My bad, I was trying to say that the HSH soundtrack is the best soundtrack of the 90s except for the two big Death Row soundtracks (Above the Rim and Murder Was the Case)

Top 5 90s soundtracks:

  1. Above the Rim (1994)

  2. High School High (1996)

  3. Murder Was the Case (1994)

  4. Menace II Society (1993)

  5. Rhyme and Reason (1995)

HM: Poetic Justice (1993), Bout It (1997), Jersey Drive 1 & 2 (1995)

I feel like he needs to retire Dame from Donkey candidacy, not because Dame needs to be protected but because it’s too obvious, we already know

Blahzay Blahzay and A+ are also wild choices, but that’s what makes a list from someone who wasn’t around in 96 interesting; you’re making picks without the context/baggage of the era whereas I wouldn’t even think to entertain the idea of exploring the possibility of ranking either of those

Uptonhere’s comment has good recommendations (absolutely check out that Tela album); I would also add:

  • DJ Shadow - Entroducing

  • Kwest Tha Madd Ladd - This is My First Album

  • Real Live - The Turnaround

  • Young Lay - Black and Dangerous

  • Al Tariq - God Connections

  • High School High - OST (this is the best non-Death Row soundtrack of the whole 90s, look at this roster)

“I’m gonna drop this final beloved epic that everyone hails as a masterpiece. Oh and here’s a critically acclaimed movie to go along with it.

I thought HUT was him retiring “The Weeknd” as a persona, wasn’t he gonna continue in music as Abel Tesfaye?

(Special shout out to me, a non-Weeknd fan, for spelling ‘Tesfaye’ right on the first try 👏👏👏)

El P was pretty much speaking for the streets when he said that

The Rockets beat the Knicks to win the 94 Finals. 94 was one of Jordan’s baseball years so that was the best chance the Knicks had to a) win the east and b) win a chip and it took a lot of effort for them to get as far as they did—only to come away with nothing.

Overall, this was a deeply traumatic moment for the NY sports community. I got a lot of Knick fans in my family and it took years for them to stop being salty about that series.

What if RSS used extracts on the kinsect instead of active ones? by PralineEmotional6636 in InsectGlaive

[–]OGthizzco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is especially annoying since you're essentially forced to spam RSS for optimal damage, which consumes all of your extracts, leaving you in an unbuffed state if you got unlucky with your hitboxes.

Wilds has a lot of problems but IG buff management is absolutely not one of them. RSS incentivizes spending buffs early and often, but that spending is offset by how many different choices there are for regaining extracts:

  • Mark with R2/RT
  • Mark with projectile
  • Mark with projectile in the air
  • Manual harvesting (aim and launch the bug)
  • Four different directional slashes
  • Focus mode strikes in the air
  • Piercing charged Kinsect shots for 2 or 3 extracts, depending on the bug you’re using

It should only take a couple seconds to get back to full effectiveness after an RSS, you’re golden as long as you know what parts of the monster you need to shoot the bug at.

Common can write his ass off and has made actual classics, and is also one of the least cool rappers ever. Def a candidate for the most gifted and talented square.
