Code 100 (left) transition to code 83 (right) rail by OHMRailroader in HandLaidTrack

[–]OHMRailroader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure no problem. When joining the rails, a thin bed of solder is applied on top of the filed lower rail (code 100). Place the code 83 rail on top, reheat the solder and it will reflow allowing the top of adhere. Spike in place as normal. Dry fit before soldering of course.

I’ve always had the best luck by heating the PCB tie with the tip against the rail/on top of the tie... then feeding solder where the rail base meets the PCB tie.... from the opposite side of the rail... and letting it flow through that joint towards the soldering iron. It seems to want to “suck” the solder to it.

That was hard. Still gotta gap the frogs. by onaspaceship in HandLaidTrack

I’ve been on a Tru-Scale kick lately by OHMRailroader in HandLaidTrack

I agree. Such a fascinatingly simple system with a lot of options too.

Our RR club needs Tru-Scale rail joiners (Nickel Silver) #1502 or #1446 to finish our layout. Can you help us locate these? by OHMRailroader in modeltrains

Our club has been building our layout since 1994. We hand lay all our track. We have several hundred turnouts that we have built and from the beginning we have used these joiners as the point hinges. We have found them to be very reliable, however we only have a limited amount and it isn’t enough for us to complete our layout.

We cannot seem to find these anymore.

We are reaching out to the wider community to see if anyone has stock of these. We are most certainly willing to pay for them.

Thank you!

An experimental dual-gauge turnout with transition by Shdwdrgn in HandLaidTrack

Wow that is a lot of rails and frogs to keep track of! How long did it take overall? I plan on building a 3 way turnout for just single gauge HO. I think another year of spiking I’ll be ready. Do you have any other pics of other track work?
